Submariner owners: what is your relationship with the Omega Speedmaster?
I'm attempting to gauge the love/hate relationship Submariner owners have with this watch. Let the battle of the two most iconic watches in the world begin!

Completely different watches, more complementary than antipathic. I have a couple of Rolexes (black GMT-C and Explorer 39mm) and a couple of Omegas (Speedy Automatic and Seamaster Pro), rotate them all regularly. Had a Sub Date, traded it for a motorbike over 30 years ago, still have it :)

Hardly a battle.
Two very different watches that belong in any serious collection. I own both and will keep both.

Not a big fan of chronos generally, but I like the speedy. No threat to the sub as they are different watches/classes.

I bought both the year my son was born (2011). I really enjoy both watches and am actually trying to whittle my collection down to just these two. My thought is they’ll mean more to him (when they are ultimately passed down) if he actually sees me wearing one daily. They were getting minimal wear in a large collection for awhile.
It’s actually kind of nice to be down to just a few pieces. Constantly chasing the next thing gets tiresome after awhile. Maybe the collecting bug will bite me again, but for now I’m content. I do a fair amount of strap swapping to keep things “exciting”. |

Is there a rivalry between the Sub and Speedmaster?
I own a SubC and would like to pick up a hesalite Speedy sometime in the future. Not a burning desire though. |

I own both, but I’m likely to sell the Speedy Pro at some point.

I want an Omega Speedmaster Pro on a leather strap. It would go great with my sub. I’ll eventually get one, but I’m not sure when or if it will be next watch or not.

Most likely will never own one. Don’t think they are bad and could easily see wearing one, but no need to either.

I own both currently. I love both. At heart I’m a one watch guy, eventually one is likely to go...not yet sure which one it will be.

I have owned a speedy a number of times and will likely own one again soon. I regretted each sale shortly afterwards. (I thought I could just break myself out of being a watch lover. LOL.)
I’m just waiting to find one at the right price. This time, it’ll be for keeps. |

I own a SD4k and find it to be the best dive watch ever made.
I also own a 116520 and a 116500, which I also find to be the best Chronos ever made. The one manual wound watch I owned was also the only watch I ever sold. I’m just an automatic watch guy. Don’t get me wrong, I dig the Speedmaster, but I won’t be buying one. |

Have both, and as many have mentioned, complimentary pieces in a good collection. The Sub gets worn 3x more though

I have both the speedy pro and the 114060. I don’t remember the last time I wore the speedy. Here’s what I’m wearing now.

Well if anyone wants to offload a speedy to a good home, hit me up. Just kidding... to each their own. :)
We have so many good choices out there we should wear what we love. |

I have both a Sub and Speedmaster, it's an iconic watch more so than a Daytona, so get one!

Is this so-called battle between 2 different iconic watches really necessary? There are no winners or losers here and they always leave a bad taste in the mouth at the end of the day. I own both and respect the history and romanticism associated with these legendary watches. Sorry to disappoint the OP but I belong to the group of serious watch collectors only

I used to own one and loved the timeless design. It was the single watch I received the most complements on! I however sold it because it was a bit too big and heavy for my wrist, so now I am in the market for the smaller FOIS even though I know that’s not the same! Hesalite is a thing of beauty in the original Speedmaster Pro.

I never could get into the Speedy because I found it outdated.
Never could get into the Daytona because of its size and legibility. So I ended up taking a different path to JLCs door step to find my preferred chrono. The DSC had the dimensions, esthetics, and all horological bases covered for me. Remember there are more than just 1 or 2 good watch makers out their. Borrowed pic |
