ROLEX Yellow Gold DAY DATE President 18078 Bark Finish

Got this baby on ebay for $6,600.00

I sent this timepiece to the Rolex Service Center in Beverly Hills, CA to have the movement oiled, also the Date/Day dials were hanging at midnight till about 3am, so I figured a gear may be stripped. My personal jeweler said that I should repair it because if there were broken cogs in the timepiece; debris may fall into the movement and damage the timepiece.

The Rolex Service Center responded asking an additional $2,025.00 plus fees to fix the timepiece ($2,025.00 to replace the dial) because the jeweled dial was "not of Rolex manufacture".

Did I get ripped off?

tell rolex to box it up and send it back to you. take it to one of thousands of certified rolex jewelers and get it serviced. or you could just sell it to me and i will do it.

My very first thought was that the dial was no way an original one.

If it were me I would look to get an original replacement (not diamond set) dial into the watch.

If the RSC can supply one then fine and the total cost of service should be around the $1,000 mark. You could save a couple of hundred by having a specialist do the service work and sourcing a dial yourself since they are available out there and at very reasonable costs.
