Hulk & Holy Grail List

Hi all

New to the forums.

A bit of background. I was lucky to have a decent poker win last month and thought I'd use some funds to get a nice new Rolex.

I spoke to a good pal who has been doing a bit of buying and selling over the last couple of years and he had a brand new Hulk which he'd bought from an AD in the UK, but who had retained the papers for 12 months to prevent any flipping. He offered it me at MSRP - £6600. It seemed like too good an offer to refuse, so after a quick money transfer, I am now the proud owner of a the attached Hulk.

Since then, i've been addicted to reading these forums and can't believe the shortage of my model as well as many others...

I now have a hit list of new watches to acquire when funds and opportunity permit:

Ceramic Daytona - white face
James Cameron
Datejust M116334

I reckon that would make a wonderful collection so I better get saving!

Is this your first nice watch? Slow down and enjoy things if so.

You’re full of emotions then (and that’s a cool thing) and I’m suggesting what I did for two reasons.

1. You truly don’t know what you even like. Have the Sub on your wrist for a while, understand in a few months what you potentially like/dislike. You could end up saying you maybe want leather strapped dress watches instead.
2. You may end up losing a pretty penny. A watch like the white Daytona is going to be almost double retail price. You end up not liking it you’ll lose a couple grand trading it back in.

It’s a happy time to get your first nice watche! Enjoy the moment, and don’t worry about immediately purchasing something else.

Dmash makes a great point, there should be no rush. Your entire collection is Rolex based? Nothing wrong with a sole Rolex based collection but so many other brands you might want to look at and explore. Just my thoughts.

Congratulations and excellent choice for the first Rolex. I ageee with dmash; slow down and see what you like and dislike. I have gotten a “watch bug” from time to time and I can say if I bought what I thought I “loved” then, I would not have kept them in rotation long.

I hope you continue to win! Lord knows I never do when I play...

Yes, slow down a bit. You will be amazed how your tastes evolve as you get deeper into this hobby. Also, buying multiple pieces in a short span can dilute the excitement of acquiring each.

Great first piece, and felt green nonetheless.

I agree with establishing your tastes before committing to several other unseen pieces.
