Shipping a Rolex via USPS registered mail

Sent the 14060M off to Rik (Timecare Inc) for a good overhaul, per his suggestion I used USPS and went with the registered mail option.

Had a projected arrival date of yesterday (12th) but the tracking just says:

"The item is currently in transit to the next facility as of June 12, 2018."

Now its my understanding that this service has some security measures involved but wanted to see if missed and/or longer shipping times is normal. I should of overnighted it via FedEx, but such as life.

Is longer shipping times normal through USPS Registered mail? I'm going to see if he can overnight it back once done.

I’ve used both. USPS is much cheaper, but slower. Depends on how fast you want it.

The USPS tracking system doesn’t account for the delays Registered Mail entails. It predicts the delivery date based on the underlying transport - and I’m guessing in your case you chose Priority Mail.

So don’t worry - it could take up to another week. The one thing you didn’t mention was full insurance - you did pay for that, right?

USPS only insures up to $1,000 as far as I know.

Well it's $5000 with non-registered and $50,000 with registered. Now you know better

I’ve had registered mail tracking say it was 500 miles away, then deliver an hour later. It has some strange tracking anomalies compared to normal snail mail.

TN to FL, could take a few days. I wouldn’t worry, it’ll get there, but keep us posted.

Registered mail is the most secure method. That’s why the RSC uses it.

It’s not as convenient tracking as commercial speed couriers, but the chances of it getting lost or stolen are very small.

Registered mail is usually slower and not as accurate to track but most reliable. You shouldn't worry.

Exactly.

USPS also offers Registered Priority. I used it to send my Patek to New York, two days and complete tracking

this.. Registered mail can take 1-2 weeks. However its the most secure since only the post master touches it...

usually locked up a signed and under watch during the whole trip. The reason? If it gets lost/stolen whoever had it in possession last is screwed, loss of pension/retirement/fired whatever.

I believe it has the highest rate of delivery BUT its slow.... a trade off.

Registered mail takes longer, but is the safest method and very cheap to insure. Took my watch a week to reach him from the mid-atlantic. And yes, he overnights the watch back to you via insured UPS. BTW, RSC only accepts watches shipped via USPS Registered Mail.

Statistically USPS has grown exponentially. I actually trust them now. I didn't before. But now, yeah... stuff gets there on time. They've changed their game. You can trust them more so, than in the past. Just check out Mary Meeker's 2018 slide on delivery if you don't 'believe.'

Should not take 12 days. I would imagine next day or two. Positive thoughts!

I'd only ship fedex and insurace up to the max.

You can do it online and order a pick up etc.

Whatever you do DO NOT pack it in front of them. You will lose it.

Good point. I just had to send over my Tudor to RSC as it was acting up. I had them send me their shipping box with everything needed. Had to send it via registered mail and insure it. I know it is a rather slow service but I've used it in the past with great success.

I just sent a watch from the Boston area to Long Island; the "estimated" delivery date was 2 days. It took a week to get there. Knowing it's fully insured and signed for every step of the way put my mind at ease. Also, knowing RSC requires USPS, it was the only option I was comfortable with.

The delays are normal. One of the safest ways to get there, but slower and you can't trust the updates in system.
