Ebay Purchase?
With so much fraud out there, if someone is interested in purchasing a Rolex from a secondary market whether it be Ebay or elsewhere, where should one take it to get it authenticated? what's the fee?

I've purchased from here and Timezone/Watchnet. Never from E-Bay.
Just personal choice. I don't think e-bay has better deals than elsewhere, just the selections maybe different. Check the references and really, check to make sure they are not either stolen or posted by themselves.

Hi there...TZ and WN and ofcourse TRF are the only forum you can trust..but beware there are still scammers lurking around..the good thing about this forum we can give you reference to people who can be trusted and who to deal with...Admin and people who have been here for a long time are good resource...when it comes to ebay...there are more choices but a lot of scammers...right now paypal will issue a full refund of the amount if the item is consider counterfeit or fake...

To answer the second part of your question; most AD's will check it for a minimal or no fee; but if you live in Dallas, LA or NY, best bet is Rolex.

One golden rule: buy the people, not the watch. I have done busines with a preowned store in Houston several times; good prices, excellent service and everything has been perfect. Get to know who you are dealing with.

Generally, you can probably trust them IF they have been selling high end watches for that period of time. Don't trust someone who's got a lot of junk sales and then all of a sudden starts to sell a high end watch. Run from that type.

In the past, we've discussed several power sellers and their questionable sales practices in the Watchout section of this forum. You are welcome to do a search there. There are some reputable sellers on ebay, some are power sellers, but don't get hung-up on that title. As previously stated, buy the seller first before the watch. Also, there are many fine watches available here on the forum for sale. You may place a wanted ad as others could have watches for sale that might not be listed, or they might know someone that could find you the watch you are looking for. Good luck, be safe and happy shopping. John

Ebay can be a great resource, as can other sites. But as stated above, you must buy the seller before seriously considering the item. Ask as many questions as you please, and expect the seller to answer them in full within a reasonable amount of time. Do not hesitate to ask for references or extra pics of the item either.
What it essentially comes down to, eBay or otherwise, is that you are sending thousands of dollars a long distance away to someone who you have never met for something you have never seen in real life. If the seller is on top of his/her game, the whole thing will run smooth from start to finish. If you have any doubts whatsoever, do not proceed. |

I've bought a few watches on ebay - and have returned about half of them due to inaccurate descriptions. Spend a few months and a $100 on books and some tools. Buy on ebay only from people you can drive to meet with. meet at their home, or place of business. Take out your books, remove the bracelet, pull out your loop and go to work. Ask them all the questions you want. convince yourself it's real (or not) pay for the watch and go home. If you do it by mail then you will end up sending back watchess at some point.

Good luck on your purchase. Remember, you have to buy the seller first.

I have dealt with generalwar (real name Jon Todd) on ebay for years. I have never once had a bad experience with him. He is honest and professional to deal with. If you find a watch he has that you are interested in be sure to call him because he will almost always sell the watch cheaper than his listed price. His prices are usually better than any deal you will get from an AD. His knowledge of Rolex watches is extensive and he is happy to educate you as well as sell you a watch. The third watch I bought from him after I received it I just plain didn't like it (nothing wrong with the Rolex I just didn't like the way it looked on me). It was a $36,000 watch and he refunded my money immediately upon his receipt of the Rolex returned to him. The full refund was without complaint or condition of another purchase or any other string attached. http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/genera...Q_sopZ1QQ_scZ1 |
