Went to one of my AD's today...!
So, I was in Overland Park Kansas today and stopped by one of my AD's at lunch. There I was amazed to see over 100 Rolex's in the display case and that is not to mention what they obviously had in the back room safe.
The first one that caught my eye was a WG Daytona with the Metorite Dial. Just superb in every way. I asked the sales person to make me the best price possible and he quoted me $27,400.00 down from their MSRP of $34000.00 and some change. I passed. After that I went on to the TT Bluesy!!! They wouldn't budge off the $9300.00 MSRP. Not a penny. Not a shilling. Not a shekel! So on to the Platty. Quoted best price was $$9975.00 (I think they make up their own MSRP's). No budge here either! From their I visited the Panerai showcase and inquired about a PAM 88 GMT. Their price was $7488.00 firm, but they would have to order me one as the one they had in stock was held with a deposit. 6 months was their estimated wait. I got the feeling that they haven't sold a Rolex in weeks and that they didn't care. I think someday soon they will. If I was an AD and had over 100 Rolex's in my case with no other customer in the shop but one that was showing some serious interest, I believe I would have made every effort to send that customer off with one. Alas, I live in a fantasy world!

Some of the AD's may still be holding firm through Christmas hoping to get a few desperate Christmas buyers that will allow them to keep some better margins...........

Hmm, the difference between a Bluesy and Platty is around $675? In Singapore, their MRSP are almost identical, I think the difference is less than $200. But yes, I agree that it's odd the AD didn't bother pushing hard for a sale.

I am suprised that anyone serious about buying rolex havent been to the UK on a shopping trip . The weakness of sterling my local ad has plenty of stock i was quoted £3400 for ss gmt 116710 and £3100 for a 16610lv .
What are the problems of buying in the uk ? is there some customs issues at us borders |

Had you pulled the trigger, that would have been a fun thread... "Honey, I just scored a $6,600 discount on this new Rolex..." Beautiful watch - the WG Daytona (esp with the black & red dial) is the only one I really dig... Cheers

That's ridiculous, find another AD. My AD offered me 20% off of 16613 or any other watch I wanted to buy, and that was without even asking for it! He volunteered the discount up front. Unfortunately I had no means to buy at the time ( 1 week ago).

I am so new to the Panerai line that I don't recall the number, but it was a GMT and the price was 20 K.

I reckon they may be hanging on for the desperate buyers. As soon as Christmas is over and they got a shedful of unsold rolex's they will be giving them away with a gallon of petrol.
Sorry showed my age I believe its litres these days Hopefully anyway then I will go and fill the car up |

There is one AD in Overland Park at Oak Park Mall, Hannoush Jewelers. Decent inventory, but they like to put the "hard sell" on you. Every time I go in there, Rolex is supposedly getting ready to have another price increase. The AD in Leawood (very close to Overland Park) is Tivol. They have a pretty good selection and I have been offered good discounts there. If you want the name of the nice lady I deal with, just PM me.

The old price increase trick, "here buy it now before it gets more expensive". With this economy...

Let's face it, TRF'ers generally troll in search of good deals. Plenty of current watches, but always willing to buy another on the right terms. Most of us are already planning Jan swings through out fav ADs to see what they are willing to do then and they know it. |

I went in a couple weeks ago to an AD inquiring about a Sub Date in Stainless. They wouldn't move a dollar off the $6,000, even when I offered to pay in cash. I told the salesman to pound sand. Hopefully in time they will figure things out.

It must be tough for them, once they crack their stand on MSRP they'll have to fight hard to get it back even in a better market. Did you go to a chain AD? They are the hardest to work with because they're run by corporate edict. For example, the Big T can't let one store discount and not the others, and it would be virtually impossible to discreetly start discounting chain-wide without Rolex and other ADs going nuts.

Rolexgiants, my daughter was a varsity cheerleader for four years for the Jayhawks (and I've got the medical bills to prove it). I've been to many Jayhawks games, but not since she graduated. She went to the Final Four four years in a row plus a bowl game.
