Timex Marlin c. 2017

The Timex Marlin arrived just about two hours ago.

It came in a nice box in an outer sleeve, as pictured in the ad, and the watch itself is a real beauty, with it's silver, sunburst dial with the stylized Arabic numerals and batons.

The band is also nice enough, being genuine leather with an embossed reptilian print.

The domed crystal is a feature that I'm really fond of and to be honest, I'm already in love with this watch.

A sticker attached to the case back read, "Movt China/Strap China."

It is a hacking movement.

I have quite a few vintage watches now and this reissue fits in with those themes perfectly, besides being about as comfortable to wear as one could imagine.

Regardless of anything else, the watch is among the most beautiful watches that I own and I think we're going to have a nice little honeymoon together.

Thank you, Bas.

It's refreshing to get such a beautiful, stylish watch for little more than a song.

I'm doing some research, the movement seems to be made by Sea-Gull, they do make decent affordable movements. Definitely one of the better watches you can get for 200dollars.

How's the strap?

I agree and I actually got a 15% discount from Timex, so that really does make it a good deal.

As for the strap, there's not a thing wrong with it. It's very soft and comfortable and does exactly what it's supposed to do.

One might complain that it's a bit shiny, but my experience with watch straps that come with watches in this range is that they tend to start out shiny and then take on a more matte finish as time passes.

I have zero problem with it, but if I did, I'd just buy a strap I like better and switch it out.

Absolutely!

I'll do that tomorrow when the light is good.

Did I mention that the Marlin has lugholes?

I love this piece.

Bad News Update:

Went to set the Marlin this morning and lo and behold, the crown and stem came completely out of the watch.

Got it pushed back in and set the watch, but it will now go back Timex for repair.

I'm two days out from the 30-day return date.

It's a bummer. Stuff happens, but of all the watches I've ever owned, this is a first.

Okay!

The Marlin is off to the Timex repair service.

They said they might decide to send out a new one, but I'm not concerned about that.

I just want one that works.

Return process was pretty painless.

I'm very hopeful.

Timex has changed quite a bit since I last bought their watches, but as noted earlier, the customer service so far has been excellent.

I have the Marlin in black. Hope they just send you a new one! You didn’t order a defective watch, you ordered a functional watch.

I saw the black one online the other day.

Very nice.

Actually, I'd just like to get one back from Timex, regardless.

I got my Marlin back from Timex yesterday.

There was a mix-up regarding the repair cost and what repairs were actually done, but a phone call resolved those problems.

The total cost to me for the repair and handling was an $8.00, which is quite reasonable.

Can’t complain about $8

Would be more impressed if they just sent you a new watch for goodwill.

I agree that that would have been impressive, but it's not necessary.

It was a simple problem with a simple solution, even if there was a small communication problem.

I'm quite pleased with the outcome.
