A Good Flight

I was on a several hour flight today and got bumped up to first class. The gentleman in the row in front of me (a very interesting young Indian fellow with an Australian accent who runs his dad's paint and chemical company out of Dallas) was wearing a yellow gold blue dial Sub.

When I commented on his gold Sub and pointed out my SS Sub, he immediately took off his Sub and handed it to me. I was surprised at first, but handled it gently for about 10 seconds and handed it back to him. It felt VERY nice. Its the first time seeing that reference in the flesh. I don't normally like yellow gold, but the yellow gold offset with the blue dial and bezel was stunning. I now prefer it to the white gold.

A guy two rows up had a Deep Sea and I spoke with him and we chatted about the size of it versus the Sub. And a young lady in the row behind me had a SS DJ 28 with diamond adorned dark grey dial. I've never seen such concentration of Rolexes--4 Rolex in 4 rows--on a plane (other than my flight back to the States from Geneva).

A bad flight for me... 2 hours delay on my Friday night red eye flight back to the east coast.

I often observe a high concentration of Rolex while flying.

I understand your feeling, gold can surprise you!

Oh gosh! I'm sorry to hear that! Did the late arrival disrupt the rest of your weekend plans?

Interesting how quickly the guy took of the sub and handed it to you to check out, he is obviously very trusting

It would have been difficult to make off with it at 35,000 feet!

I was surprised at that, too! I showed him mine so maybe he assumed I wasn't going to mishandle it. Also the airport floor is carpeted.

SS and YG Subs are very nice, but too heavy at the same time.

Yep, there it is! I had never given it a second thought until I saw it in person. Stunning.

The 116618LB is a great watch. When I have been able to get moved up into First Class I always see nice luxury goods. I guess if you have the funds for First Class you might also value a nice time piece.

I always have more conversations with more interesting people when in first class. I don't think its because there aren't interesting people in economy.....maybe its because the first class environment is a little more serene and conducive to conversation. And because I'm happy to talk watches whenever I see a Rolex!
