Someone owning just one Rolex?

I just got a recommandation to check this interview:
Talking Watches: With Jack Nicklaus
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/ta...-jack-nicklaus

I was so impressed! This interview got me thinking: is it possible to live with only one watch? Is someone here living with only one Rolex? Pros and cons?

I just have one watch right now, it’s my SD43. For me that’s likely all I’ll ever have, maybe add one more in a couple of years...the decision is really easy in the morning on what to wear at least!

If I were a living god aka Jack, one Rolex would be fine.

Just one for me, a new 114060 bought about a month ago. Would like a 14060 as well, but not in the financial picture at this time.

I don't think Jack is a watch enthusiast so anyone like him can live with just one watch, or none.

It is not unimaginable that someday in the future I will consolidate all of my watches and just keep one.

What kind of filthy peasant would be able to live with only one multi-thousand-dollar watch?

I've survived having just one for many years. I work in an office, have no need for a dress piece, so one is fine by me. I can still enjoy the hobby when all I have to choose from is a black DSSD every day

"Filthy peasant" hahahahaha

I have only one Rolex (Explorer 1 mk2 recently acquired), but not only one watch. It is worn in rotation with GS, Seiko, Victor Inox.

For most people it is unimaginable to ever own a Rolex. They cost a small fortune and I feel extremely grateful to be able to have the funds required to buy just one Rolex. Having more than one is extremely fortunate.

I got my first Rolex, DateJust, in my late 20s. Only watch. Traded it for a DayDate in my 30s. Only watch. Only in my 50s did I start adding watches. I could, once again, live with just one. It would be the DayDate.

If you are a collector of anything it’s not possible. If you want a car to get around town or a watch to tell the time or whatever then one is fine. It’s two different motivations

I currently have only one Rolex, a 114060 I bought from my local AD this week. I'm in a "back to basics" mood, clearing out the "old" and restarting a simple collection of no more than three watches. I just sold my Day-Date and I now own only my new Sub, one Omega, and one Nomos, all SS.

Icon7 Enjoyed the video.

I have just one Rolex- a GMT model 116710LN. It’s been in the safe the past year and is only 2 years old. My daily beater is a Breitling Blackbird which I just had a full service on after nearly 17 years. After viewing this video the GMT is coming out of the safe.

How many do you have? What would be your choice for the only one?

That is a great watch! True: One doesn’t need many watches to enjoy the hobby. Is there some special story behind your watch: why DSSD?
