help with identifying vintage boy's size rolex

hi, all--i've just come into possession of a boy's size "rolex" in rose gold. very clean and runs well, but i'm pretty sure the caseback (which i've yet to open--am away from home and don't have the tools) is a replacement. is anyone familiar with this model and can they tell me about it? one very interesting detail i noticed is a ruby jewel on the tip of the seconds hand. did rolex ever use such an ornament? many thanks, all, for any information and advice. (i'm a complete newbie here--i collect fountain pens and some vintage watches, mostly hamiltons and bulovas, but this will be my first rolex, if indeed it is one.)

Welcome..

Hard to say anything about your watch... It has the typical looks of a 1950's model, but there are some things that are "off".

The dial appears to have been redone

I don't recall a second hand like that

The crown is unusual..

But these are all things that could have been changed or modified along the way over the past 50 or so years.. You need to look under the strap against the case and see if there is an identifying model and serial number etched against the case. You also need to get the caseback off. It would be a shame if it was a replacement because there is some valuable information inside early backs....Still, there definitely should be a Rolex movement there before you can even speculate about any variations....

many thanks, larry, i'll make another report as soon as i get the caseback off. there's a rough patch under the strap that may have been a serial number, but i need a loupe to see or read it more clearly.
