Italy for 3 weeks. Bring the SubC date or birthyear Exp II!?
Heading to Italy in September for 3 weeks
Starting in Paris for a couple days then the rest of the time in the motherland Driving to Firenze Ascoli Amalfi Sicily Taromina And then back up to Rome #1 who has worn a Rolex in these areas? #2. Smarter to bring the SubC date, or birth year explorer? Explorer II may draw less attention, I could also put it on a nato to simplify the look. but if it’s stolen then the sentiment goes with it. SubC is a little more replaceable, but it’ll stick out and is very well recognized I’d love to take one of my watches along for the journey. I can’t imagine spending close to a month without a watch on the wrist Thoughts? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

And this is my problem with the SubC.
Take the explorer. More of a travel watch anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I brought my sub date last year. Rome to Sorrento/Amalfi/Ischia/Vatican back to Rome
Father-in-law had on a YGDD40, BIL a BLNR, wife DJ, MIL a DJ with diamond bezel. None of us had a single issue Have a blast!

I live in Italy and been to most of the places you plan to visit. No worries about security wearing either choice. Wear the watch that is most versatile end enjoy.
Make sure you stop by the ADs on your travels too! Enjoy the trip! |

Thanks! Anyone out there full of tattoos? I feel like I’d draw attention because of this and then the watch will get noticed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Explorer II is probably the least "Rolex" Rolex. If you have concerns I'd say this is the way to go. A bit more peace of mind will do wonders to your enjoyment of your vacation time.

I have travelled many times to all those parts in Italy and never an issue. I have worn watches like Panerai, Rolex DSSD etc. The fun thing is in all those areas you are traveling, you will see sooooo many Rolex or other high end brands. But I always found Rolex is king in Italy. Many many sightings

I would only say to watch your back in Naples. Naples was ghetto as hell with all the migrants when I was there in November. Just walking to the famous pizza place there was shady.
Rome, Amalfi, Florence, etc all very nice. |

I was in Naples in April and really wished I didn't have a Rolex on. Everywhere else was fine. |

I’ve been to Naples a couple times years ago before watches became important to me. And I agree. We are planning to just drive through and wave this time around lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just got back from Italy. Started in Florence, traveled through out Tuscany and Umbria wearing my GMT II most of the time. The remainder of the time I was wearing my new Date Just 41 Stainless/Gold Wimbledon that I purchased from the Rolex AD on the Ponte Vechicio (sorry for the spelling) in Florence. No issues at all.

It's too bad that has to be an issue
I bought an Orient Ray ll day date sub. for the same reason. Not being paranoid but just being cautious while away is smart nowadays so I think the Expll on a strap is more under the radar. Now enjoy your trip. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk |

Take the one you want to take, not the one a bunch of strangers tell you to take.

I've been in all those areas with the Sub and other nice watches, with never a problem or comment or even side-eye.
Do be a little careful in Naples. And anywhere in Italy be careful of pickpockets, particularly at major train stations--a high art there. RE Sicily: I spent a month there several years ago, and toured almost the whole island by myself. Other than maybe certain parts of Palermo, it is a beatiful and safe place. Taormina is stunning, the Greek temples are the envy of Greece, the landscape is varied and lovely, and the people are warm and friendly. It's bad rep is deeply undeserved. |

I know it's not on your list but I just got back from Venice in mid-June and wore my Sub-C Date entire time and had no issues. Saw Datejusts and a Skydweller on the writs of others.

Bring both. It’s only a watch. People don’t care about them.
