To All SS Daytona Enthusiasts

Now that the Daytona is rapidly becoming less rare, are you still as enthused about it as you first were?

For me, the answer is yes and I'm glad that it might signal the end of those $$#@#$ waiting lists and rules that you have to buy one at full price before you can be considered worthy of owning an SS Daytona!

Nothing quite like the magic of wearing a Daytona.

i was waiting for somebody to ask this question. i didn't have the guts to ask this. well either we like it or not the daytona may not be rare anymore but it has that certain mystique and enigma that is quite irresistable. but i did lose my enthusiasm about it and after seeing major price drop i've been attracted to the 16613 bluesy more.

my thoughts exactly. That's why I would prefer to hunt for a Zenith Daytona, if you think Daytona's are hard to come by, try hunting these down. I can justify the prices for the Zenith movement but not the premium on one at an AD or grey market.

Yes.

I love my SS Daytona and always will. I got the call this past May from a local AD that I never did business with. No regrets at all. Now that I got one at MSRP, I hate to see the softening of the SS Daytona market.

Maybe the thrill was the chase afterall.

Owning it is great but the mystique of ownership will always outshine the physical reality methinks?

If a person is about to spend $10,000.00 on a stainless steel watch, the same person will spend $12,000.00 on a stainless steel watch. Either amount is far from trifling. People don't spend that kind of money just because they "heard it was hard to get" (Granted those who bought for resale in the gray market are no more). The fact is that it's a watch that I would like to own, and millions upon millions of people would like to own one. Of course that means nothing, it is who will pay for one that determies the market.

When I am ready to pull the trigger for one, I'll be spending a lot of money one way or the other. However, a lower price point may make the buy more tempting. Maybe when it's all is said and done, the AD's will be paying for the last price increase, when they have to discount Daytonas by 20% in order to sell them. $7900 seems cheap for a Daytona the days, doesn't it?

May I pose this question: How many SS Daytonas could Rolex sell fot $8000 in 2009 if they produced as many as they could sell? 10,000? 50,000? 100,000? Some other number?

It does not matter, it is still my favorite watch. I am kind of glad that I don't have to be on the waiting list to get one in the future. I can just walk in and buy one anytime. Instead of begging AD, now the AD begs me for a change. That is a good feeling.

It's $9200 for an M with the older clasp. Mine, a V, and the later Ms with the new GMT IIc clasp are $9925. A ton for a steel watch, but I had to have it.

I live in SoCal and it's still impossible to walk into any AD and see one. I'm still looking to buy a black or white one whenever I come across it. Hopefully soon.

The price of Zenith Daytona's has plummeted as well. I walked into an AD and they had 2 preowned Zenith Daytona's just sitting in the case. One was 10.7 k (A series) and one was 9.7 k (U series). They were previously fetching >13-15k less than 1 year ago.

I was offered black faced SS Black Friday weekend at $9,500. I ~believe~ it was an M Serial. This is an AD in the Philadelphia area. I keep hearing that $9,200 figure though so I'm not too certain anymore.

No, it was never 9500. 9250 or 9925. Nothing in between.

I'm 99% sure it was actually $9200 before the current $9925. I remember almost soiling myself when my AD called to inform me about the $725 price increase. The $725 is etched in my mind for some reason.

Oscar, I've tried on most of the "Guld" models(Tay Prince - LOL!)

They just aren't my cuppa buddy. Too heavy, too scratch easy, too spendy!

Don't get me wrong though, they are gorgeous to look at and I admire them on other people's wrists.

Never bought it for the resale value so its exclusivity or lack there of doesn't mean much to me

Personally, I only buy watches that look good to me and not because they are hard to find (if this were the criteria, then we all should be only buying limited edition models and nothing esle). So the lack of Daytona scarcity now makes no difference to me - I think it's a great looking watch that is worth the high asking price, with or without the discount.

Having said that though, I appreciate that there are some fans who view scarcity as a major purchase factor and as such, might view the Daytona as now being less attractive than before.

Yeah, that makes sense as nobody else seems to have heard the $9500 figure. Now I'm wondering if he was trying to get an extra $250 off me or offering me a $425 discount! I still have the text message on my phone from him that says, "It's $9500 not $9900." They did offer 0% financing for six months too. Now I wish I had taken a picture of the price tag too...but here's a shot I took, unfortunately with a camera phone.

All of the watches pictured were offerred for sale for me to walk out with, the Sub being the exception...that's mine.
