They're keeping the "papers"
Hi all,
Any of you been offered a SS sports Rolex by your AD(UK) however, advising they will be keeping the papers? - AD's are saying they will retain papers(Guarantee Card) for a year and then will post it out to me. They have stated this is a direct instruction from Rolex. Any of you in same boat? Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk |

When I picked up my SD43 last month from my AD I received my papers like any other purchase. They did say they were going to hold onto the papers for the BLRO for 6 months to discourage flipping. No mention of it being a directive from Rolex. This was in the USA though.

I don’t see how they’re able to do this. If you pay for it in full, it belongs to you. Warranty card and all. And if you choose to sell it, that’s your business.
I’m pretty sure you could get the warranty card if you really pressed it.

I have never sold a watch. The AD I frequent has seen each piece return on my wrist, as I look for my next. When/if this happens in the US, I will not make a purchase under such conditions. You get what you pay for, except from Rolex? Drive an hour and a half to retrieve my card so I can avail myself of the warranty I already paid for? That's just not going to happen.

recommended by Rolex UK, not mandatory. Goldsmiths, M&W, WoS seem to do it to everyone on WL watches. Some AD's do it on a case by case basis based on how much they trust you.
I have my warranty card from a London AD for my BLRO.

Yes it happens. Get over it.
If you are not selling the watch I don't see the problem in not having the card for 12 months. |

Normal for UK. They're simply trying to keep people from flipping them. Am sure you want to keep the watch for some time, which is why you bought it.

It's dependent on a host of factors; Does the AD trust or have a history with the buyer, how heavy handed have Rolex been to them and who's selling the watch on the day you're buying?
In the end, unless you're an illegitimate seller, the papers are coming your way so I don't mind. If it helps this awful situation we currently find ourselves in, then bring it on I say! |

All ad’s around Edinburgh/Glasgow I’ve spoken to stated they would keep the warranty card and if I was happy with that before they would put me on the waiting list.

Normally I would say give the papers , but as the situation gets worse I may be for the dealer to keep them for a period of time.
Especially when I’m walking past grey dealers and seeing this , at astronomical markups |

I got card and papers when I bought my SS Sub with date from Goldsmiths in Feb. I find it offensive that they'd suggest keeping the papers.
However, I bought the watch to wear it daily, so in the end wouldn't care too much. As other have mentioned above if it stops flipping and grey market dealers being able to charge stupid money then maybe its not all bad. It is after all Rolex keeping the card for you :) |

Correct. They have all the power. Can take it or leave it.

Holding the card, papers, only empowers the greys even further, imo

Can I sell my house but hold onto the deed for 12 months? This is outrageous.

Just bought a Submariner (114060) this past Sunday. My AD is "holding on to the warranty" for 30 days. I considered protesting but decided I could wait 30 days. If they hesitate at all after 30 days, I will demand it.

If an AD refused to hand over the warranty I just purchased, the credit card company would get a call cancelling the transaction immediately after the AD removed the stickers.

you wouldn't even get that far. They wouldn't even process the transaction without you agreeing

Yep 100% , I pushed it after the payment was made on a sub in January , was polite telling them I feel uneasy leaving without it .

its not a deed nor does it establish ownership. The correct analogy would be them withholding your home warranty for a year but if you needed it for yourself you would still get a warranty fix. It would prevent you from flipping the house to a third party and including the home warranty

Its been established over and over and over again they can do it and its happening. Rolex UK also says its OK for their AD's to do this.

I just bought a BLNR, and got my card and papers. They stripped all the stickers and sized the bracelet but that seems to be normal now
