2017 or 2018 SD 50th Anniversary
From a collectable point of view which is better?
a. 2017 Mark 1 Face b. 2018 Mark 1 Face Or does the year not matter as long as it is has the Mark 1 face in terms of future potential collectability? Or does the Mark 1 or 2 face not make any difference? Many thanks in advance. |

Perhaps you could post some images and highlight the differences in such "collectible" pieces for the forum?

Does anyone care about the MK1 dial on a Deepsea? Is it more valuable? The answer is no

I’d suggest that the MK dial on a DSSD is a different proposition because SD43 is an anniversary edition and now a limited one year run ( with the MK1 dial ). I’m not for one minute suggesting that the MK1 dial will become the new flat 4 but if you are looking at possible future collectability and added value then surely the MK1 dial has to be your best bet? The Mk 2 is worthless, you might as well give it away.

If it does not become collectible, then it will make zero difference. Condition and age will be key, not what dial option or purchase date it had.

Flat four Oval "O" They are insignificant differences, yet command significant premiums.

At least I now understand why I did not care Wonder how the timekeeping performance is of the various models?

buy the sd4k if you care about it being potentially collectible.
that said i don't buy watches for that reason. i buy them for a more obscure reason - because i like the way they look.

If your going to speculate, the 2017 MK1 must be your choice.

I really have a hard time envisioning how any SS Rolex will be collectible. Everyone squirrels these away now. It’s not like 50 years ago when they were used and abused, leaving few good examples left.

Reason why I went with the 2017 MK1 Dial. 2017 is the true Anniversary. I would suggest making sure you have the Warranty Card with the watch that states as such. I think this may be important "just to have."

I have the MK1 dial on mine and I could care less. It is about the watch and it is great.

The watch commemorates the first Sea-Dweller back in 1967. It's a 50 years anniversary. Same price and you get to chose: 2017 or 2018. What do you think? Give me one reason for picking a 2018 mk1 dial.

2018 is not the 50th Anniversary … simply put and would bet that future collectors will value it as such. Just my 2 cents.

If you have the option to get MK1 or mk2, I’d grab the MK1 dial. I wouldn’t worry too much about it though, future value is unknown and I’m betting a lot of people that own a SD43 now will likely not have their SD43 anymore by the time any adjustment happens.

My sentiments exactly. It’s a great watch regardless, but if you can have that added touch of an MK1 dial go for it. If you can’t, who cares the watch is really good regardless Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Rolex Ref 126600 with the "|swiss|made|" dial is effectively a 1 year run (unless both dial types are being manufactured simultaneously)
Not sure what part of that is not "limited"
