Sub for OP39mm...

I currently have three Rolex;

DaytonaC white dial
GMT Pepsi Ceramic
Submariner 16610

I love the Daytona and it is my special day/weekend piece. My favourite by far.

I love the Pepsi and I enjoy this just about everyday.

The Sub gets no wrist time, the Pepsi makes it redundant so far. My idea is to switch this for an OP39mm black dial which I think is so understated and classy. I also think I would really wear this piece for meetings and in the office etc. Nice to wear an under the radar watch sometimes. I like the history of the OP as well.

A PM piece will be added down the road, probably a Daytona.

I just wondered if you guys would make the swap to a OP from the Sub given what I have?

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

I would not trade a 5 digit Sub for the OP. No way. IMHO it's very different from the other two that you own.

Getting rid of a 5-digit sub? Yup. That's a future entry in the "Regrets" thread.

Keep the best sub they made IMO. If you wait about six moths should be able to pickup the OP at a good price from a trusted seller.

There is literally 0 chance I make that trade if I was in your position. The sub is a much nicer watch in my opinion.

If it were for a 6 digit Datejust I’d say go for it, but I wouldn’t give up the Sub for the OP.

If you don't wear it, sell it. An unworn watch is just a paperweight.

To me it's not about what you have, but how you feel. If you aren't wearing the sub and think you would get more enjoyment from the OP then go for it!

I made a change recently from a 16710 to a 114060. I imagine if I solicited feedback prior, I would have heard "never, add rather than trade, the 16710 is a classic and they aren't making more" etc. All fair points, but for me it was the right change. I love the 114060 and have never looked back.

The 16610 is an icon. Keep it. I promise you will miss it over time.

That said, the OP (new black or white dial) is extremely nice. It's not expensive - just add it.

Trade a Sub...blasphemy unless it is for a different Sub

If you are not wearing it, then making a change may be a good thing. How do you see yourself using the OP in your rotation?

Go for it! No need to keep a paperweight around.

Go for it if the sub gets no wrist time and you are interested in the black OP more.

I think the black OP 39 looks great. And I’ve had more than one 5 digit sub date....I’ll also tell you I don’t think I’ve seen a watch that appeals to me visually more than a sub or sub date. But, I got to a point in the last year or more where the comfort of a luxury purchase of a few thousand dollars became paramount to me personally. The subs, as much as I like them, were never (in any version) as comfortable as 36/39mm Rolex offerings, which meant I didn’t wear them as often as I had hoped.

Just my experience.

If its not getting wrist time why not? The 5 series sub is great but it's no good if you dont use it. The OP would be a great choice!

Agree with Flavio. Never, not ever, would I consider parting with a 5-digit Submariner.

Move the sub and start saving for the next one. Maybe a Patek Calatrava?

Just a thought here. The ceramic BLRO hasn’t been out long enough to throw in the towel on another piece. Give this a bit of time. I, too, have a new BLRO. I’ve worn it everyday since I got it. But, maybe a month or two more and you can let this settle. I’m betting you will regret smoking the sub.

That said, if you are truly done with it, move on, rock the OP

Sounds like you want a dressy piece so the OP or DJ would be the way to go... or a Lange Saxonia, great value for a Haute piece.

I would sit tight with the Submariner and pick up the OP. For your collection I would not trade a thing.

Robby I would consider that as a downward trade and not one I can see any benefits of.

You have to be happy. If a watch isn't getting any wrist time, why keep it unless it has sentimental value? I've had my share of 5 digit Submariners in the past. As comfortable as they are, it's easy to move on from them. I say make the move. It's easy enough to reverse if you aren't happy
