More stock or more luck?

So after a few months of searching, I was able to purchase my BLNR just two weeks after purchasing the Datejust...

Fast forward a few weeks and on Friday I got a call from a second AD who said they have a BLNR in stock for me which I couldn’t believe.

On top of that, on the same weekend I saw my neighbour who was wearing his brand new BLNR which he’d just received from another AD nearby.

Is there really a shortage or...?

I wonder if at least some of the potential BLNR buyers are getting/waiting for the BLRO instead.

sounds like stock is flowing in. A AD called me last week with a BLNR that came in

And a lot of incomings lately

And I also notice a lot of private sellers are posting NIB pieces trying to make profit

I hope that's the case, that stock is flowing in, as I placed a deposit with my AD on a 116710 LN last week... Hoping to get it before I go to school in September!

DeVons? If so, they are a great AD. I've been a customer with them for 10+ years and have always been treated fairly.

Congratulations. What a lovely purchase.

Can I ask where you managed to purchase these from?

Funnily enough I spoke to the AD as I’d also ordered my wedding band and they told me that they’d received an LN which no one had asked for so it was on the window for 3-4 days! I was shocked but pleased that at least there is no waiting list for some people

Thank you

I purchased them from Michael Spiers after I received recommendations on this forum. They have a few stores based in the SW.

Quite far from me but it was well worth it.

NYC? Here I called 3 ADs requesting info for Sub Date, No Date and Daytona (for joke). 2 ADs of them have No Date on stock, 1 AD a Sub Date and of course nobody a SS Daytona. Tomorrow I will probably visit the AD to buy it the No Date. A month ago, there was nothing available.

That's good to hear, I've been hearing the opposite but I doubt the SS pepsi will be flowing in. Congrats to you on your BLNR and DJ...

Definitely more stock. Plenty of incoming. My opinion is the "shortage" in ADs I've visited was a smoke screen for dealers to coerce other purchases. It appeared to me that ADs in large cities like NYC or where there are big spenders tend to play this game. I was able to get 2 Hulks in 2 months from ADs that I've not had prior relationships with, and a friend of mine got 3 BLNRs in a month of calling ADs out of state.

What’s with all the repeat purchases? I agree though much more stock all over.

Repeat purchase of Hulks; one for me, and one for a friend who wanted one but since English wasn't his first language he unfortunately had a hard time getting hold of dealers to take him seriously.

Repeat purchase of BLNRs; My friend got three, one for him, and 2, honestly to take advantage of capitalism and profit from the 'scarcity'

I didn't get it from NYC. I was told it was almost impossible in NYC as I bounced from dealer to dealer.

I've heard the new GMT with Jubilee bracelet has been hitting the dealers but not the Subs, GMTs, Sky dwellers.

Ok, get this, my AD said they received 2 ceramic Daytona’s in 2 weeks.

Rolex says it takes a year to make a watch, so maybe a year ago they increased production and now we are seeing the fruits of their labor.

Not enough to say the drought is over, but awfully interesting given our experiences of late.

Rolex and PP have both increased their market share this year. Between the two they now account for 70% of all watches sold with msrp over $10k. Given that all global and NA watch sales have increased significantly year over year, this with the forgoing means Rolex has increased production within the last 24 months. Which models are they now producing more of? That is the question.

I read this article myself too and couldn’t help but wonder that Rolex does not want to lose their lion’s share of the market that they “worked so hard” to obtain by starving ADs and increasing demand. However, the average joe unlike us will easily jump ship to let’s say a Cartier Santos (as the article mentions the uptick in interest). I doubt Rolex wants to see this, and I could only imagine Rolex releasing pieces more frequently to ADs to soften the blow of a waitlist. If an AD tells me it is “impossible to get on a waitinglist for a Daytona because the list is too long” , they’re basically telling me to piss off to another brand. Rolex is tryinf to be like Patek and limit their production to increase demand; but it’s too bad Rolex is not PP and never will be PP no matter how much they try. Rolex is absolutely best at what they do... in their league. I see it similar if Louis vuitton and Chanel started to limit the availability of their bags tantamount to the Hermes Birkin. LV and Chanel are excellent brands, but they will never reach Hermes no matter how much they try. If LV tried to limit their Neverfull PM bag to a long waitlist, my wife will just look to Goyard or Faure Le Page to scratch that itch.

I can only speak about my personal experience but here in Dubai it’s been difficult to obtain even a black sub date for a while now. I’ve been asking at ADs for months. I dropped into one the other day and just asked what’s the best way to get a sub date. The very helpful sales lady just said “simple, I’ll special order one for you right now”. She couldn’t confirm delivery date but said she would order for me the very same day. I also asked about BLNR. They were doing the same up until the end of June but have stopped ordereding those now.

This is a total change from previous visits when they just basically shut me down and said no chance.

It's regional it seems. A crap ton of BLROs flowed into London it seemed during the initial wave, and the same happened with the new D-Blue in the south east USA. Meanwhile in other places like Dubai or even Switzerland there is a barren desert to chose from.
