Hans Wilsdorf, Founder Of Rolex Interview 1959
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HnZSZxyC0ZQ
Not certain if this has been posted, ever. It’s in French. Almost like a tradeshow introduction interview. Essentially saying he’s been in business for 40yrs and in 1919 he saw a demand for wrist worn watches after WW1. It’s amazing seeing how even HW had to ‘sell’ and had a great pitch. |

The legend himself, probably had no idea the behemoth that Rolex would become.

They basically talked about how Hans popularized the wristwatch. He said it was the highlight of his career.

He has a little something in his speech and his voice tone which perfectly matches his creations! Positively radiating a good mood, high class, and proudly exploring (he mentioned he traveled the world 3 times to better understand the tastes of people around the globe)
Now I understand why Rolex watches are like this :-) |

For those who went and saw the transcript in Jacke's world (and for those who will), there is a mistake (in this otherwise excellent blog which I appreciated for years!).
Hans Wilsdorf is not interrupted after the first paragraph (or not quite), he had time to say... (addition in bold, below) : Hans Wilsdorf: For 40 years. I came to Geneva after the first war in 1919, with some absences due to trips I made around the entire world. I've traveled a total of three times around the globe, to every nation in the world. I know a little bit something about all people and their taste. This helped me not only to understand the needs to make watches which would please people in French :"... une montre qui plairait" Moreover, at the end, there are 2 things that are missing : he says that he personally made some inventions and that he is glad of the way the industry did develop. It would then rather read: Hans Wilsdorf: One of the pioneers, as I was not only the first to understand the potential of the wristwatch but I also personally made few inventions which contributed largely to the development of the industry, which (development) I'm really satisfied of...
