About 40 years apart, how time has led evolution

5513 and 114060. Should have brought out a 14060 for the group pic as well. Anyway, I was browsing some watch stores when this 5513 caught my eye. I suppose this is the grandfather to my 114060.

Both Maxi dials, but so very different in execution. There's just no comparison here; budget notwithstanding, I would go for the older 5513. Unfortunately, at this point in time, my wallet does not agree with such a purchase.

One quick wristshot and back into the display cabinet, then.

That 5513 looks amazing, but your sub is no slouch either.

More like a father...Grandfather would be a gilt sub 1966 and earlier. 5513 is still my all time favorite reference. This is why I dig Subs so much, just subtle changes over 70+ years. Always been the perfect watch to my eyes.

It would be so easy for rolex to do another run of those watches, or at least a very similar looking watch. Without all the applied markers and fancy bezel it ought to cheaper. But of course they would price as expensive as a good vintage model is now anyway

A great testament to Rolex design is that both look fantastic, and from a purely aesthetic point of view either would be a welcome watch to wear.

They are both great, but that plexi On the matte dial just creates such a warm look.

Look at those crown guards on the 5513 compared to the 114060!

Then there's the later/transitional 5513 with WG surrounds. This one from 1989 has an RSC service dial but the original dial looked just the same (apart from the "Swiss" at the bottom).
