I did it and I feel naked and scared

Kinda slow at the office today so I decided to liven things up by REMOVING MY HOLOGRAM from my SS/Plt YM !!!!!!!

Yes...it's true. Gently peeled back the sticker leaving a mucky greenish goo. Then removed as much of the goo as possible with my fingers and the rest with a mild soap and tooth brush. The caseback is now shiny and smooth.

I do have a few concerns. Perhaps some of you here with more knowledge than I can help.

1. Is there a proper way to safely dispose of the sticker once removed? Should I send it back to rolex?
2. Have I forever diminished the value of my watch?
3. If I change my mind, will Rolex send me a replacement hologram?
4. Should I adhere the removed sticker to my warranty paperwork in case anyone ever questions whether or not my rolex is real?
5. Can I sell my used hologram on e-bay and what do you think it might fetch?

Thanks in advance to all of you for your help.

I hope you wore protective gloves when you removed it. You may need decontaminating.

I just had a great idea.

Rolex is a company with a long history of responding to customer inquries in writing. I wonder what type of response one would get from them if they wrote inquiring of such things as whether or not to send the hologram back, whether replacement holograms are available, etc.,,

My guess is you would receive their usual serious, dignified response which would make for a great read and a hilarious thread.

You fool!! Why did you do that? Of all the dumb things to do, that ranks at the top (or bottom, depending on your point of view) of the list.

Now to answer your questions:

1. You must carefully pick up the sticker with tongs - do not attempt to touch it once you have removed it. Once you have it firmly held by the tongs, place it in a lead lined box and hermetically seal the box to prevent the escape of contaminents. Bury the box at sea in the Mariannas trench - the deeper the better.

2. The watch has no value any more. You should send it to me for proper disposal.

3. No. You are only entitled to one sticker per watch. You shot your wad with this one.

4. That is an option at this point.

5. Absolutely. You can probably get enough to buy a NIB YM that has the sticker on it.

Andy, welcome to the real world!

None of my HGs have ever survived 24 hours.

BTW, if you later regret your action, Rolex has a policy of exchanging the watch for a new one. You just pay shipping (both ways.)

I wonder if JJ has ever determined the weight of the hologram, and how much less the watch weighs when it is removed?

Hologram Removal Disposal Site

After safely removing the hologram and placing it in a hazerdous waste lead lined box it goes to the Rolex Hologram Disposal Site. =) maverick

Used hologram barrel storage

Neutralizing chemicals added to the waste holograms

Final hologram storage facility

That's the way I should have done it, Dennis! Instead, I kept it in my wallet, dropped it on the way out at Changi Airport, and look what happened:

You have met the rest of the TRF gang, and yes we are all nuts. That's what makes this such a fun place to hang out.

Besides, Andy started this and the rest of us just naturally fed right into it.

Advocatia - in answer to your questions --> 1a) No. 1b) No. 2) No. 3) No. 4) No. 5a) Yes! 5b) I'm not sure but I'll bet P.T. Barnam would have a better idea!

PS: Thanks for not posting that old, tired, green sticker thread - "Should I remove it". This post is an intriguing variation on the theme with many more opportunities for humorous replies. I can't wait to see how the rest of the thread develops.
