New Yacht Master gains 2 minutes per week
Is this normal? To keep the watch from stopping, I wind it every few days.
What amount of gain or loss per week is considered normal? I thought that being a certified chronometer would mean that a watch is a lot more accurate. Last edited by carl3150; 25 August 2018 at 03:56 AM.. Reason: typo |

New Yacht Master gains 2 minutes per week
And if you’re wearing it daily you shouldn’t need to wind it
Also I’m fairly sure superlative COSC standards are no more than -2/+2 secs per day meaning it shouldn’t be off by minutes for at least a month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If it's new - let it settle for about a month or so. If it keeps acting up, RSC is the way.
Just had my Tudor back from service - ran 10s fast per day. After 2 weeks it settled at 4-5s fast per day.

Is the YM new from an AD, or BNIB from a 3rd party, or just “new to you”?
If from an AD, then an adjustment is in your future by the RSC. If either of the latter, then maybe find a watchmaker to adjust it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Could it not be magnetised?

Your watch may be magnetized. My Panerai went from +5 sec/day to +20 sec/day when it got magnetized. I demagnetized it and it went back to +5 sec/day.
You can get a demagnetizer for cheap on ebay or Amazon. FYI, my YM is -1 sec/day. |

I'm guessing it's magnetized. Even at +4 seconds/day (standard COSC limits) it should be off by a maximum of +56 seconds.

If new from AD, it's not anywhere close to normal. COSC spec is: -4 / +6 and the in-house Rolex spec is: -2 / +2. I've purchased two new Rolex watches in the last year and both are very close to -2 / -2.
In any event, like the man said: a visit to have it regulated is in your future. Supposedly, if the watchmaker is not busy - this is a 15 - 20 minute job and could even be done while you wait. So, nothing to punch alarms about, but you'll want to attend to the issue sooner than later. (Before it drives you nuts.) Good luck, Mark Sent from my SM-A520W using Tapatalk |

5 seconds a day is 35 seconds a week or a minute 10 seconds ever two week. So about 9 seconds a day is pretty high. My first OP was 11 seconds a day which drove me nuts. I go with the theory that the watch could be magnetized.

Take it to RSC, it's way off, you're gaining a whopping 17 s/d. No settling in is going to fix that. Could be a 1 minute job with a demagnetiser without event opening the watch.
Mine is within +2/-2 s/d, currently ticking at -0.3 s/d in the last 4 days and +1.0 s/d the week before. It's 3.5 years old. |

There's a free iphone app called Lepsi. It will tell you if your watch is magnetized or not.

Just used the app. Interesting. I was getting a little nervous something was wrong with my BLNR. I lost 2 seconds in a day and a half. Going to keep an eye on it. It’s not magnetized according to the app. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Losing 2 seconds in a day and a half is within standards. Remember, it's about the average.

No, that’s not normal. Even for COSC gaining maximum time in spec, that’s 42 seconds in a week. For Rolex’s in-house spec, it’s 14 seconds. For my Submariner, in a week, it’s usually less than 1 second gained.

Is it a Rolex?
About 7 years ago I had a Oyster gaining 2-3 minutes in 5 days. I called our local dealer. He threw out his opinion that a watch gaining that much time in 5 days was not a Rolex.
I took it in a week after that. It wasn't a Rolex. Had a nice Rolex face though. |

My new DJ41 went from being literally spot on (+0.3 spd) to a crappy -6 to -7 spd in the span of a few months.
It's really pissing me off. I understand that to get it adjusted under warranty it's gotta go to RSC, taking near a month. |
