Need to fact check a local AD
I have a 30+ year old two tone datejust with a jubilee bracelet. After some hard wear, recently a link broke in the bracelet. There are other worn links, but those are in addition to the broken one.
I was able to stop at my nearest AD yesterday for the frst time since the link broke but I didn't have the watch with me. After being informed that the person that would order Rolex parts wasn't there, another employee offered to take my information and I could expect a call back. First, they insisted they needed the serial number but I managed to get the for saleman to write down exactly what bracelet I wanted, being that I know the part number. Anyway, got a call from today to tell me I can't just buy a bracelet without buying the clasp as well (nothing wrong with my clasp and lugs) and also seemed to insist that I would need to bring my bracelet in as a trade in. That's not going to happen. I see the jubilee bracelets for sale on Ebay, from worn to new to aftermarket. Part of going to the AD is to see what retail price is. Has anyone else ever been told they need the original part in order to get a replacement? Sounds like BS to me but I thought I would ask the community here. |

Rolex commonly requires a like for like swap on many parts, but no they don’t do that on a bracelet. Chances are your AD was gonna order the bracelet and then keep the old one. Regarding the clasp etc, I’m pretty certain (other than adding links) a bracelet purchase is all or nothing. End-links, clasp, etc....

A "core" requirement is common with many products. This is a method that keeps Rolex watches and parts high-value commodities.
I think that I should be able to go down and buy the latest billet bracelet for my older watches too, but that's not the reality.

I’d send it to Michael Young and have your current bracelet restored.

I remember talking with my AD about bracelets, etc and it seems to be policy that the original bracelet has to be turned in if a new one is ordered.

Or to the new folks doing same work in San Francisco. This is a good route - and in the meantime you can wear your Watch on a strap while the bracelet is being repaired. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Take the bracelet off and bring the watch and tell them it shattered.
Won't help with the clasp. I think they are trying to prevent genuine bracelets going on fake watches.

Earlier this year they required a trade in on bracelets and clasps. The policy changed this summer where you can now buy a bracelet or clasp at retail without a trade in. If you send in the old bracelet there is a 15 percent price reduction.
As far as keeping the old clasp, it’s only like a $200 part on it’s own. If you need to replace the majority of the bracelet just replace the whole thing |

To answer part of your question, earlier this year I noticed one of the links on my 16570 was bent on the part of the bracelet between the end link and the removable links. I asked RSC to fix it while they serviced the watch. They forgot and I sent it back. They replaced the damaged section (from the endlink to the first removable screw. The rest of the bracelet was the original. This is the Toronto RSC so the rules may be different in the US or other parts of the world.
