Why little to no love for silver dials?

So I’ve been very intrigued lately by silver dials, I have mostly black dials and am waiting for a white ss Daytona (hopefully before the end of the year! Which leaves silver dial my missing color

I have 7.6” wrist which makes DJ41 or DJ II my only options in SS

why doesn’t rolex have more ss silver dials? Is it because it’s kess desired or does rolex set the taste?

I like more contrast with a white or black face. Check out an OP White dial, it's gorgeous white that is silvery depending on the light.

Silver is quite a "safe" option. Don't get me wrong, its safe for a reason. It's classic. It goes with everything and blends in with the watch bracelet.

It also looks darker in low light and can almost look white in brightlight.
It's great...

But to me, it's a little too safe. A bit dull almost... it's not really, it's still a great watch but it doesn't shout out to me. Normally, I love that in a watch... but for some reason with silver dials meh... just doesnt do anything for me.

Like everything though, its personal taste!

Also get the DJ41... I have 8.25" wrists and the DJ2 technically would suit me better... but the case dimensions are just off.

Silver dials are beautiful. If Rolex released a silver dial SS Daytona perhaps matched with a matte cerachrom for differentiation I bet the madness will start again.

I recently went through similar decision and started with blue then rhodium and finally settled on silver. I was looking for a watch for formal occasions and silver works best for what I was looking for. The dial changes color as different light reflects off the dial. From, light cream to champagne to silver.

I think it's a niche market. IMO, it's just not as legible as the darker dials.

It is a beautiful dial, though.

I love silver dials! If I were to buy another DJ that watch would definitely have a silver dial.

I’ve always liked the silver dials, but always held back from owning one because I worry they are just too illegible in the real world.

I love the look of the silver dial on the DJ41 enough to maybe add a second down the road. It may look different to you in person as some people said they were disappointed when seen in the flesh saying it looked washed out or even yellowish. Not me I saw it and loved the monochromatic look. In the end I went with the new release (on SS) Wimbledon dial sight unseen as I didn't want to play it safe.

My favorite Rolex dial. It’s technically “steel”

I'm a fan, looking for a silver sunburst DJ next. It's just a classic look, perfect for dressy occasions.

Silver is a great classic color for a DJ.

This is the achilles heal of a Silver dial if there is one. When my eyes were young I had no problem reading the dial. As I got into my 40's and needed reading glasses I could no longer read the dial in the sunlight without my readers. One of the downsides of getting older.... need new watches.

The Sunburst dial is beautiful, but I think it only comes on the TT DJ41. The TT Sunburst in Rose gold is probably the only TT DJ I'd consider.

Thank goodness for silver dials.

I'm incredibly indecisive when it comes to watches. In particular, I really didn't know what DJ to get, but one thing I did know was that silver was the only way to go for me.

Strange. I don't think it's a colour that people object to or for that matter you can go wrong with, but for many, I think they prefer other colours as there is such a large choice.

For me, it's the all-time classic.

There's just something about silver and/or champagne dials that makes me think "old person watch"

I know that's not fair, and I think they look beautiful, for I just think on dress watches anyway they don't project a youthful appearance.

I really like silver dials on certain references, depending on bezel, metal color, etc....
The DJ, fluted/jubilee with silver looks great, even with the same surrounding metal colors. The bezel/bracelet are the factors that really make that silver dial look beautiful!

Haha i think there could be something in that. I’m still in my thirties, just, but I love silver dials due to them being so classic.

When I say classic, I’m obviously referring to watches ‘over the years’ and I guess that correlates with your sentiments.

That’s exactly my thought!
Probably not the best to wear on jeans or shorts but with a suit or a formal dinner, on a crocodile strap!! Not that’s class I think!!

I have the silver quadrant romans on my WG DD40. It does fly under the radar, which is why I chose it.

In terms of legibility, the hands either reflect the light or they actually look darker than they are (somewhat like black chrome) depending on lighting conditions (like the first pic in post #5 above). No issue with legibility for me and my eyes suck.

Silver is my favorite dial on the DJ36, and dark rhodium (which i'd consider a silver variant) is my favorite dial on the DJ41.

The forum tends to focus so much on sports models where silver dials are pretty limited... Yachtmaster, PM Daytona... not much else.

I had a silver dial on my WG DD36. Changed it to white after a few months as I simply couldn’t tell the time.

I've got to say a that I had a Sliver DJ41 TT Jubilee and I got rid of it because I couldn't read it at a glance. It was pointless having it to my mind if it didn't fulfill its main function so it went in exchange for a Blue DJ 41 and i can see that.

I've got a 16233 on order with a silver dial. I think its the best option for a dressier watch, hands down.
