Tiny scratch on bezel
Got a tiny scratch on the bezel near the screw at 11:00. I checked APSC and cost ard 20k hkd to replace the bezel. Had the watch since late Mar last year and only wear on some weekends...so it’s fairly new with plenty of warranty left. Although the scratch is barely noticeable, it does bother me since my other pieces in the collection are almost LNIB condition.
Should I just leave it and replace the bezel in a couple years before warranty expire? Or just sell it? |

Have you tried removing the mark? It’s most likely material transfer off whatever you have caught the watch against opposed to being a scratch on the ceramic.
However if it is a scratch then myself I would leave it, like as you said its barely noticeable, but if it’s still bothers you then replace the bezel either before or after warranty it doesn’t really make much difference. As you like the watch I wouldn’t sell it and see it as a bonus over your other watches as if you have managed to scratch the ceramic bezel had it been another watch you would of done a lot more damage. |

I do like the watch a lot but had thoughts of selling as it wears quite large on my wrist. |

If the watch is still under warranty, they will waive the service charge.

Are you saying that in order to replace the bezel, AP also requires a full service, but they'll do that part for free during your warranty period? Or are you saying you get a full service for free during warranty period, so you'll just take care of the bezel then? P.S. Great looking watch, even with the tiny ding |

AP will only replace the bezel or polish the watch if the watch is still under warranty.

My understanding is within warranty they will swap the bezel with just the requirement of a pressure test, so no movement work/service unless it’s deemed a requirement (so no free service as such by sending it in) however outside the warranty they will only carry out the work when they conduct a full service.

You mention thinking about selling the watch anyway, so perhaps this is just the final straw. If not, I wouldn't sell just because of that. Enjoy it some more and make up your mind later.

I was told a complete service was necessary with a bezel change, but I suppose something could have been lost in translation, since we never discussed in/out of warranty.

The ceramic bezels are brittle if they get a nock from the wrong angle. I myself have acquired similar chips while dailying ROOs.
I would leave it, it’s definitely not visible from a few feet away and has no impact on functionality.

I’d get it replaced. You’ll take the 20k HKD hit on resale if you sell it as is regardless. Might actually cost you more. Very few buyers want a watch that expensive with that sort of damage.

As he talks about maybe replacing it a "few years down the line" I take it as he is gonna keep it. If that is the case he can live with the small scuff he will save 20k.

It is a chip and that would bother me. I don't know if it is worth replacing if you have size issues as well.

Great for a quick brush on a wooden door frame or a tap on your significant others purse etc but a hard knock at the right angle can do this.

Just replace it since it's only 20k. That chip will bug you way more than the inconvenience.

I haven’t dropped a watch in probably 15 years, and that was a $200 Seiko. But I never try to put on or take off a strapped watch over a hard surface. Always over a bed, or a desk or dresser surface.
Watches on bracelets are easier, but even those I don’t put on or take off over hard floors. |

Doesn't look so bad. Once I dropped my Rolex on a marble floor. Shattered the crystal which ruined the dial and hands. Also busted the movement!

If I were buying a used watch, a chip like that wouldn't bother me as much as HOW the chip happened.
In this case, if it was dropped on a tile floor, there's no way I'd ever buy it. Like buying a used Porsche with the CEL on. If you're going to replace the bezel I'd get the movement checked out too after a fall.

If it bugs you that much send it in and have it replaced and mechanism checked.
