Explorer II on 6.5 wrist

Good evening, Gentlemen-

I must rely on my fellow forum members regarding the title. With the shortage of SS sport models, I have been unsuccessful with the opportunity to try on the explorer II 42mm and have diligently been calling AD's within a 4 hour drive for the last two months. This will be my anniversary present from my loving wife. I can wear a explorer I and SubC no issues. I also have a seiko turtle that ,I think fits fine. If it too big will go for the GMT LN. Just not sure in my opinion of the bling factor in the GMT. I work on business side of healthcare and do travel for my job and like the more subtle explorer II.Thanks gents!

My wrist is roughly the same size as yours. If you think the Seiko turtle is fine, then I imagine that you’ll feel the same about an EXPII.

I think it also depends on your wrist shape.
If your wrist is narrow but flat it could be fine whereas if your wrist was much more round it might not look so good.

I have a 7.25” flat wrist and have owned both the 5 digit and the 216570 42mm. The black 42mm was fine for me, and I kind of miss it. The lugs definitely went all the way across my wrist. White will “wear bigger”.

I am a GMT guy and the GMT Ceramic is perfect for me. The polished center links and ceramic insert reflect light, but they don’t seem too obvious. Especially when you think about scuffing them up. Eventually mine end up looking brushed. Like you, I prefer brushed bracelets.

I think you have to try the 42mm to know for sure. If you buy pre-owned, you could slip it on and see. Return it if you don’t like it. Just check with the seller to be sure you comply with their terms for returns and condition of the watch.

For me, the Ceramic GMT is the best fit of the modern Rolex you mentioned, and I have chosen not to replace my explorer ii, yet. Compared to the submariner you have, the Ceramic GMT fits my wrist better. Which ever one you end up getting, you’re a winner with a wife who plans presents like that! Happy hunting. That’s the best part.

It wears big, especialy the Polar. I have '7+inch wrists and although i can wear it i regret not getting the 40mm version. This model doesnt need 42mm in my opinion. With 6.5 i would definitely go for the 40mm. You can find them easily in NOS condition.

You'll be fine. Fellow smaller wrist here, and the EXP2 is one of my best fitting, most comfortable watches.

I have similar sized wrists to yours and the Exp II was too large for me. Looked a bit awkward.

GMT 2C fits like a glove.

It would be the limit IMO for that wrist size (I have a similar sized wrist and sold mine). Doesn't change the fact it's a great watch and built like a tank, sometimes I miss mine.

Hey there, the 42mmis perfect for a 6.5 inch wrist. It is just slightly larger than a subc but it wears ''flatter'' on the wrist. I have a 6.5 inch wrist aswell and prefer the look of the watch above my SUB.. I have been worried about the same subject but was convinced once i fitted it on the wrist. I have the white version and you would certainly not regret this watch

It wears larger on your big wrist than on mine 6.3inch wrist……… I think everyone can pull this version off easily as my girlfriend with 5.5 inch wrist also looks stuning with it without being ''oversized''

Me too. Small wrists and the Expl II didn't look right on the wrist which was a total bummer because it's a great looking watch. Crank it down to a 40mm and keep the dial design and it would be perfect.

Our wrists are similar and I have tried it on. I think it looks fine. It’s thin (kind of) and it sits pretty flat and quite wearable.

Yes it is more comfortable to wear than my Sub..

I have 6.5" wrists also. Tried on the 216570 a few years ago, and it was pushing my limit of tolerance. The 16570 wears much better on me, and I couldn't be happier with my polar. The GMT II also wears nicely.

Have you thought about going with a 5 digit? It might be a better fit on a smaller wrist, it is for me.

try to localize one and make judgement on that occassion. I was afraid for the same ''thing'' but i found directly that it made a perfect fit on my wrist. Close up shots of wrists might also be a bit tricky as a watch tend to look much larger on photo than irl
try it on… It is really not so big,, and i like the new reference much more than the old but thats personal opinion

Will fit you fine. I'm 6.5, and the best fitting is to put in a half link (from submariner) on the 6 o'clock side (remove all links from 6 o'clock and add in a half link), and remove three links from the 12 side.

Thats the perfect fit for me and I got the black dial. The watch is so flat on the wrist it's very comfy.

I have a 6.75" wrist and the Explorer II was big on me. Would recommend the GMT or a 40mm. Explorer II.

As much as I wanted to like the 216570 polar, it just didn't fit right for me. Also have a ~6.5" wrist here and the 42mm wasn't the issue, the lug to lug was too long and it went past my wrist.

I have a 7.5” wrist. I owned a black dial Exp II for a year or so and flipped it. I just prefer case sizes between 39 mm & 41 mm. I would look for a polar 16570.

If Rolex ever makes a 40 mm Exp II with the big orange hand, I’ll buy it ASAP!

I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Maybe the Exp 2 is a little big on me, but I am comfortable with it. One of my favorite watches, never gave a second of thought to selling it.

Honestly,

I wore one for a while and found it too big, I also own the turtle which I loved but also found it big for my 6.5 inch wrist.

I would go smaller

Does depend on the shape of your wrist. It does ware big. My advice as it look like you are in Houston. Give Thanh (Takuya) a call and he will have one for you to try and and purchase id you like.
