DayDate 40 or Datejust 41?
One is gold, quite limited in numbers, and top of the Rolex cake. The other, sold in large numbers, a routine Rolex, good daily-driver but nothing special.
But here's the thing; the latest 41mm Datejust with Jubilee is a real looker, a gorgeous watch. I have one, and when I went to buy a DayDate 40m, I was taken aback by how little extra it seemed to offer, visually, or in build quality. So I didn't buy it, and saved a lot of money. Daft? Maybe, it's not what I expected. Interestingly , my wife thought the same. I have a gold Daytona so perhaps that aspect, the precious metal thing, didn't worry me much. Have Rolex made the DJ just a bit too good? |
