Deciding between my 116900 Airking or new 116610 Sub C
Hey Guys
looking at trading my Air-King for another watch. I went in to visit my local AD yesterday to see what he had avail as I was out last week looking for a new place to live as my wife and I are making a big move in a week. I missed his exclusive event I received an invite to do to timing ..in which he had a BLNR, SD43, Deep Sea Blue, Daytona C Black, and a few others. He does currently have a new Sub and Sub date in the back. He brought them out for me to view as I told him I was looking to sell my Air-King and pick something else up with a date. I went in looking for the SD43. Also considered just picking up a GMT2 LN owned the BLNR already and prefer the all black. I seriously thought I was going to go with a White Dial however after trying on the EXP 2 Polar I couldn't imagine it as my only watch. The Sub fit perfect and looked great.. plus I can pick up at retail and no tax. However I really wanted the SD43 and had it been there would've made the purchase. My question is would you hang on to the Air-King for another year and see what the SS Market looks like over the next 8-12 months or move forward with the sell and pick up the Sub C Date ? What I love about the AK.. under the radar piece, you almost never see one, dresses up and down pretty well. While I know not a forum favorite it is a cool piece , pretty rare in the wild and fits great. What I don't like... Stainless Bezel easy to scratch, no date. Could be a future collectible.. but don't really care about that. Sub C .. what I love .. classic rolex style, ceramic bezel , date. what I don't like.... seems everyone has this watch / very common ..possibly better watch to buy for 8,500 ? the only other watches I would heavily consider right now are GMT 2 LN SD43 Yachtmaster 40 Blue dial Thoughts on this ? I have a great relationship with my AD and he is holding the Sub C Date for me until Wed's at 10am so I don't feel pressured.. which is pretty cool of him and he knows it will sell if he puts in on the display case so he isn't worried he is missing a sale. |

Get the Sub at list price (bird in hand theory) and then wait to see the SD 43 in person to see if it really is for you. Should be easy enough to get all or most of your money back on the Sub if you want the SD 43 when it’s available. Your wrist size may be a consideration; the Sub may be a better size.

GMT IIc will be my recommendation and hold on to the AK. Then buy (when you are ready) the 116613LB for diversity and use AK as a trade-in....

Decided to hold off on the Sub C date.
Going to hold out for either GMT2 ln or Sd43 Will see when he gets one of those in. Selling AK though.. no need for two watches for myself. Thanks for the input |

Subs are everywhere indeed but that doesn’t make it a bad watch. But if you are set on something else then better off waiting for that.

From the way I read your post it seems to me you really want the SD43 or the GMT. I’d hold out for what you really want.

I had and loved my Air King for six months as a daily but decided to trade it for an Expll polar.(good timing/good deal) If you really want the SD43 I'd wait especially since you mentioned you have a great AD. If it were me and I had to choose for a one watch collection I'd have a Gmt Ln over anything.

I think the 116710ln is the best “one watch” collection if you are looking for one watch. It kept me to a one watch person for the better part of 5 years. Worked in every setting

I would get what you want, if you don’t you’ll wish you did. Even though as you say Subs are everywhere they are still expensive items. The times I have actually seen a Sub out in the real world are few, sure you see them but it’s not an everyday thing.

Get the SUBMARINER
Financialy this is the thing to do WHY By trading in the Air-King you will be losing out on what you paid for it. As it is a soft watch in re-sale value..... This will be off set by buying the SubC you will make £1000 by leaving the shop... I would then wear the submariner and give it a go...it is the most Classic Rolex of all time... If you don't like it you could always trade for a GMT and not lose any money and may actually make on the deal if you sell your as new Sub privetly...hot selling watch ... I think if you do this you will buy use love and never sell your newly acquired submariner and realise a GMT is a Rolex Watch and a Submariner is THE Rolex And finally well done on your first purchase your Air-King...it's a superb watch ..I know I have one |

Who knows the AK might be worth 20k in 10 years but Rolex has not discontinued this watch they are still available. I'd go with a Sub or a GMT.

Just traded my GMT LN to my brother for his AK. All good, kind of a beefier, funkier companion for my Explorer MkII. Tired of the ubiquitous bezel Rolexes.

If you buy a GMT, you’ll want the Sub later. I know because it happened to me.
