White Gold Daytona
AD offered me one - it's much heavier than I imagined. Not sure how much wrist time it would get after the initial novelty wears off. Am also worried about scratches on the non-ceramic bezel...
How is resale on PM Daytona? |

Honestly, those pieces in my opinion you pick up because you've eyed them and always wanted them, and they wouldn't be ones to flip.
Others may disagree. I like to think of PM watches as great to mark a significant occasion, event, or achievement or to finally fill that void in your collection. |

I didn't ask the reference number - it was white dial/subdials like yours but with white gold bracelet. I can't find it on the website, only white gold daytona with white dial has black subdials.

Currency conversion aside, so in arbitrary figures
You'll get an approximate 30,000 RRP white gold watch for about 26000 - 27000 if you haggle You'll sell it a year later for about 18000 to 21000 There is a significant drop in residual value But if it's a keeper it's irrelevant, if you're trying it out, I'd but second hand This is how it went for me.... Roughly speaking Very few dial combinations will change these figures, and with new more desirable released straps and bezel cropping up, it doesn't help |

If you're already thinking of resale values, it's not a reference for you. At the price point you have to be really comfortable about spending that amount of money.
I would revisit the idea in six months time...to see if you still feel the same desire. |

The only gold Daytona I would splurge on is this
And it happens to be holding its value better than other models (these days, not sure about future) |

Interesting. Didn’t know this about PM value.
Over the weekend I saw some pretty cool PM models - a WG/Blue Dial Daytona, Smurf, YM RG on OF and a 2 tone Gold/SS GMT. Was most keen on the WG/Blue Tona. Killer piece. But why does PM not hold value so well? Not that it would be a deal breaker for me - if I went PM, it would be a keeper. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Compared to other watch brands they hold their value well. In comparison with the stainless models they fall a bit short. If you look at the gray market prices as a litmus test for worth, which is something I do but I'm not sure is correct, you'll see that the PM pieces usually lose about 10-11 percent upon purchase. Over long term however you should come out a head as the price of gold and platinum usually goes up over the years.

Beautiful pieces. Very subtle differences pricewise they are now close to the stainless steel models but as said above not a long term hold piece hoping it will appreciate

Unless it’s pre-owned.....I could be wrong, but I don’t believe that configuration exists in WG

I have always like the Daytona and wore a YG Model for a decade. The SS has been in and out of my collection and I even owned a TT years ago. Owning any watch is about what you pay for it. At full retail you will get your feelings hurt when it comes time to sell. Most AD's will go 20% off but I doubt I would go less than 25% and would try for 30%. Even in todays market it is doable except for hot models. I would look at the pre-owned market for the best deal.

My opinion, this is not a piece you casually pickup if you are unsure. If you really want it, get it. Doesn’t sound like you are smitten

Why?
Just supply and demand I suppose It's got less of an audience than the steel ones, as everyone wants them... So resale is not as strong They're obviously readily available, unlike the steel ones and don't often have waiting lists with people basically offering to pay more and more Finally I guess, most PM purchased by people who don't really look around at the second hand market |

I picked this up recently as I got tired waiting on a ceramic. If bought well can be great value |

Those watches are for financially super comfortable individuals. If you are thinking about resale value, forget it.

I recently tried on the RG version on oyster flex. Incredibly comfortable

Agreed, and aren’t they going for around 27k, not bad imho. It’s definitely a keeper.

As a question for the thread...is there a reason Rolex hasn't made a PM Daytona with a ceramic bezel and PM bracelet? If you look at all the possible PM configurations it's either PM + bracelet with non-ceramic bezel or PM + oysterflex with ceramic bezel. The one obvious exception here is the platinum Daytona... I'd be all over making a Daytona my first solid YG watch if had ceramic bezel and YG bracelet. |

Last weekend I tried on the 116509 blue dial, white gold bezel. It’s what I consider my grail but never actually saw one IRL. last weekend while traveling for work I came across it thrice - I was convincing myself it was a sign :)
It’s heavy but not as crazy as I thought. When I put it on my wrist, wow, now I know what grail means :) In the end though I did not get it. I want to be absolutely sure about it bec if I did get it, then that’s it. I’m calling it a day. Or shall I say calling it a day(tona) lol. The pics in this older thread here are awesome https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=542058 |

I’m probably in the minority here, but I actually like this bezel more than the ceramic. This one is just classy and classic. A true tribute to the reference. Love it.

If l was to consider a new or used PM Daytona besides grinding for the best deal possible I'd think my best first to make sure it will be a keeper. WG bracelet for me.
