Where to buy replacement plexiglass?

Hi all,

I was looking for a place to purchase a replacement plexiglass (with 2.5x cyclops) for my Oyster Date ref. 1500.

I purchased the watch recently from a used dealer, but noticed that it had a generic 1.5x cyclops on it that was swapped out previously. I just wanted to change it back to a correct 2.5x cyclops.

So far, I've come across two places online eBay and Ofriel.

I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendations for finding a replacement crystal?

I already did that today. I'm not sure how it is in the US or other parts of the world, but to get the glass changed at the RSC in Melbourne they won't do it unless they also do:

- Full service (which includes replacing my bracelet, case, and aged dial and indices)
- and if I turn it in now, I don't get it back till Feb of next year because they're busy/ backlogged/etc.

I bought the watch specifically for the weathered dial, they've already told me that they won't service the watch (or replace the glass for that matter) unless they also replace the dial. Besides, the case and bracelet are fine, but they want to replace EVERYTHING with new parts, which defeats the purpose of me buying an older vintage piece in the first place.

Nothing against my local RSC, I think they're great. Just defeats the purpose of me buying an older vintage rolex if I turn it in to be "made new".

I'm just trying to source a glass so I can have my local independent watchmaker do it.

I haven't heard of an RSC insisting on replacing parts unless they are not genuine or as originally configured for the watch. Since you say the parts are fine, are you sure everything on it is genuine?

Check the forum classifieds and also check other forum classifieds. The vintage rolex forum for example has vintage parts for sale. When I was restoring vintage watches I found parts all over the internet. I like to do the work myself so just wanted to buy the parts.

Yes, everything is genuine (except for the crystal). I had it inspected after purchasing it and Rolex inspected it when I brought it in for quote.

I think the local policy here is not to do any kind of work on any watch unless they can provide a 2 year warranty on EVERYTHING once they complete the work.

Reasons for replacing things such as the bracelet was that it has a stress point in one of the links that may break in the future.

I don't think my local RSC is very "vintage friendly". They'll work on the piece, but they'll have to replace everything, even my aged dial and indicies so that they can "warranty" it.

There are trusted vintage restorers that will follow your instructions. Google LAWW and Phillip Ridley. Stay away from the AD.

I see. I guess this explains why the sages around here say to avoid RSC for vintage work.
