Submariner accuracy

Hi all. I have 50th anniversary sub and I have a question about its time keeping. I have had a suspicion that it has not been keeping time particularly well since I got it, less than a year ago. On saturday night I syncronised it with my radio controlled alarm clock. Over the subsequent period it seems to be gaining roughly 10 seconds per 24 hours. This is not the accuracy I would expect froma rolex. Thoughts?

No, it's not, although I would suggest giving it a week or two before taking a measurement, activity, temperature, a bunch of things can affect it short-term. But generally it should be much better then that. I'll have the experts jump in here, (JJ! Calling JJ!), but I think COSC is something like -4 to +3 (?). The GOOD news is it's no big deal to take it into the AD and have it adjusted. My Daytona was about 8 seconds/day slow, I took it in and they adjusted it in about 15 minutes. Now it's +1 or 2 seconds a day, good enough for me. The last thing I'll add is you didn't mention how old it is, if I remember correctly the 50th came out in 04(?), maybe time for an overhaul.

Hi Chris

That sounds out of spec. I think -4 to + 7 per 24 hours are the COSC guidelines.

How frequently do you wear your Sub ? Is the power reserve low ? I would wear it on a daily basis over say a week and then at the end of that period divide the total gain by 7 for the average daily loss. That should give you a more accurate reading.

My GMT-II gains 13 secs a day consistently for the past 2 months...all you need is to have it adjusted by a RSC. It is going to be free of charge if the watch is under 2 years old, i.e. still under warranty! No big deal really! Still as the other members suggested, try wearing it on an everyday basis and see the results a fortnight from today!
