SOLD: Overhauled Vintage Grand Seiko 4520-8000 Hi-Beat
Up for sale today is my 1970 Grand Seiko 4520-8000 Hi-Beat 36000, just back from a movement overhaul at MY’s Classic Watch Repair.
Condition The 4520-8000 is one of the most faithful examples of Taro Tanaka’s famous Grammar of Design, and all the great designer’s lines, corners and surfaces here remain strong and true, with only light surface scuffs, scratches and swirls that will polish out if desired. The all-important caseback gold medallion is in perfect condition. The dial and hands are in excellent shape, with sharp printing and flawless SEIKO and GS applied logos (see macro shots below). There is one tiny, barely noticeable chip on the surface of the acrylic crystal, over the 12 marker (see last macro pic). The original GS-signed winding crown operates perfectly, both for winding and for setting the time. The watch has been keeping very good time off my wrist over the recent few days that I have timed it, and the newly-serviced, 25-jewel handwound movement is clean, bright and running strong with a 43-hour power reserve. See timegrapher pic below for the numbers. Facts & Figures Production date: May 1970. Case: 36.5mm x 9.25mm. Lug width: 18mm. Lug to Lug: 42mm. Movt: Manual-wind Seiko 4520A, 25 jewels, hacking (more info here) BPH: 36,000. PR: 43 hours. Crystal: Acrylic. Waterproof: No. Strap: Brand new black Italian calf from Geckota. Price: US$1,250 including express registered shipping (EMS) to most countries. Bank wire is preferred, but Paypal is also fine, with the gift option, if you have references, or if I know you. Please just send me a PM if you’re interested. Questions are always welcome and will be answered asap. Thanks for looking
