Which rolex to get the wife?

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find a suitable rolex for my wife other than the datejusts. What do you guys recommend?

Im considering the 37mm rose gold yachtmaster.

My wife has that same watch and really likes it a lot. It's a good size.

37mm YM is a good size. My wife got that to compliment her 28mm DJ

Watches make great gifts. As you well know, many options out there. Let her pick it out. She may want a DJ. My wife surprised me with what she chose. If I had purchased what I “thought” she would like, I would been off the mark.

This above was our scenario too. I would have been way off what she liked.

Ah, makes sense. From my perspective for the ladies it becomes a little challenging to have multiple Rolex that are sufficiently different from each other unless they like something like the YM. My wife doesn't particularly like professional models. She would rather have multiple DJs of different dial colors and metals than add a professional model. Maybe our age plays a role in that thought process too, we're not spring chickens.

Good luck on the hunt.

Does it make sense if I give her one of my SS watches? Or they are too bulky for a woman?

I'd say it depends on the woman. My woman, with her tiny wrists, it would not work. And she doesn't like RG, so that wouldn't work (for her). What your wife likes, only she knows. Unless you're really perceptive and a good listener.

Although a Rolex makes a great unexpected gift, I wouldn't spend money like that unless I let her pick it out.

I got my wife a 36mm Datejust and she loves it. I think the days of smaller 28mm and 32mm have past. She had a 28mm Tag and hated it. The larger size looks good.

Sounds like a great choice. If you had the 40mm version, then an awesome pair.

My experience is that you are better off going to an AD and letting the wife try everything on. For such an expensive and lasting purchase you should get her what she wants.

Over the years I bought my wife quite a few watches, and in all cases, but one, it worked perfectly fine. Her first Rolex we bought together, though, as at that time we didn't have good feel for the whole thing... thirty some years later our daughter wears it with pride.

I had one miss - I went too large with the last one. She made several attempts at wearing it and liking it - but it just would not work on her arm.

Bottom line - go with what she wants.

An OP 34mm or a YM 37mm would be nice.

At first I offered my wife the 37mm TT RG YM with chocolate dial. She tried it on but didn't like the weight. So I made her choose instead and I too was way off the mark. Lesson here is if your choice doesn't work let her choose and never leave with something she has to "learn to like."

I got my wife the TT RG YM with chocolate dial 116621, but she liked the 40mm not the 37. The Yacht-Master is a very comfortable watch, she loves it!

Let her pick. We spent hours online looking at pictures and she always picks something I would not have picked...although lately she is wearing my Exp II Polar more than her Rolexes.

She does like the RG YM quite a bit too.

My wife has tried on many. The best size for her is the 31mm ladies datejust. The best advice is to take her to the AD and let her decide what looks best.

I agree with a lot of the posts here. It would be wise to let her choose. You should take her to several ADs and let her try on different models. The process and fun experience of choosing a watch is equally important imo.

My wife chose the 37mm TT yachtmaster and absolutely loves it. She also has the 35mm SS/Plat one too which she loves. If she had to chose one though, I am guessing it would be the TT. The size is perfect!
