I think the open back is unnecessary. The MT5641 isn’t the prettiest movement

I just don't understand why they are making a dress watch at 42

It should be in 36 and 40 (and i choose 40 because the ideal is 38 but too close to 36 :D

While I admit it's a turn-off for me as well, I'm pretty confident Tudor knew exactly what it was doing. Their analytics must have told them this was the most profitable size. If I had to guess, it's a combination of "regular" buyers liking large watches more than the enthusiast community does, and perhaps there being more of a market opening in the 42mm size for a watch of that style (less competition).

And while giant watches are clearly no longer the "in" thing, 42mm is hardly huge -- it's just much more sporty than formal. They're probably aiming for that sporty market segment, even with the somewhat classy styling.

It's a nice watch; I agree it's meant for the masses who seem to like larger watches. Maybe like the 58 they'll also come out with a smaller version eventually. I keep seeing their commercials on TV; fun to watch both Beckham and Gaga showing of their Tudors! I agree about the sapphire back as well; it's a very plain looking movement. Seems like it's another nod to a popular check mark on novice buyer's lists.

A few years back, Rolex applied for (and received) a patent for a "big date" or "dual date", so this is how they decided to use it???

Would have thought Rolex would have come out with a larger DJ with this feature and or in combo with moonphase similar to the Cellini.

I do agree with most that have posted, this should have been 38 or 40mm max. Not a huge fan of large dress watches unless its's a Patek complication of sorts.

I was just thinking the same thing. I saw the patent filing papers that someone had posted to TRF I think a year ago regarding the dual date etc. thought the feature would be used differently.

I think despite the size, the look of dial and hands are too feminine. I’m considering a few dress watches and this just doesn’t appeal.

Some manufacturers are getting way out of hand with huge watch sizes. Even up beyond 44-46mm. JEESH! At that point they are becoming 'arm clocks'.

I also think it’s nice looking, but as others have said, not the size I’d want for a more dressy watch. Then again, I like my sport watches at 40mm, so YMMV.
