Would you rather buy...?

I've got the itch for a Sub again and am looking for a 16610 with lug holes. I would like to find an unpolished example with box and papers, but given the age of these watches it seems like many do not come with a full set (and those that do are listed at a real premium nowadays). I've never purchased a Rolex without box/papers before, so I just wanted to see what others here think:

Would you rather buy a 5 digit Sub for ~$6500, or pay an extra $500-1k to get a full set for ~$7500? This seems to be where current listings are at.

I'm planning on keeping the watch for a while but I also don't want to get hosed if I ever do decide to sell it, so I think that's where my concern about not having box/papers comes from.

Buy the one in better condition. Buy a box online, send it in for service and then you have updated warranty and papers... At that age the original warranty and papers are outdated and worth nothing except to the most desirable collectables in my opinion.

For reference I bought a Tudor Sub, head only and sent it to get services and at the same time I put a Superdome on it. I still have the original crystal, and have all the documents from when I bought it and when I serviced it... I'm not selling it anyway, but I keep all the records for my watches.

7500-6500=1000.

Buy the $6500 and get it serviced. $7500 doesn't guarantee the watches condition. Getting it serviced will provide documentation.

Thanks guys, didn't even think of that. Watch will probably need a service anyway, so that's a great idea.

I agree, forget the B&P and use the savings towards an RSC service. Win win.
