Trade Offer

Hey gang, curious what you think. I have been offered a Rolex Sea-Dweller 4000 (116600) for my Rolex Sub Bluesy (116613LB).

I have to admit, I am on the fence. While I love my sub, I just don't wear it and it sits in a safe. The 4000 is a great piece and I see it getting some wrist time.

My only hesitancy is that I would need to ADD some cash. The fact that the 4000 is discontinued is the reason behind it, as you know, values have sky rocketed.

Any way, always appreciate the insight and feedback!

Thanks!

I would consider doing the trade straight up if you really need the SD, but I don’t think I’d add cash to get the SD4K if both watches are similar condition.

Trade Offer

Depends on the condition of each and any remaining warranty, if any. Then depends on how much extra cash we are talking. If you get the terms right I would jump all over it since you can always re acquire a bluesy down the road at a reasonable valuation.

The 4000 isnt hard to get so don’t let that be a factor. It’s also heavier and won’t wear as comfortable as your Sub.

On the contrary, my Sd4k is more comfortable to wear than my Sub.

I agree with this. The 4K is an easy watch to find so I wouldn’t let the discontinuation sway my decision to add cash. I’d do the trade straight up if your TT just sits in the safe. The furthest I’d go with adding anything is maybe shipping/insurance for both watches, but that’s only if the deal was about to go through. I wouldn’t cut off my nose to spite my own face for a watch that just sits in my safe, but that’s as far as I’d go.

Man that’s a tough one. I have both. In the end I’d keep the SD4k. My SD4k is more comfortable than my Sub.

I think it’s the lugs...it does sit a little higher on my wrist. I’ve got a 7.5 inch wrist. The BLNR is least comfortable watch I have.

My SD4K is also one of the most comfortable watches I have. The value of SD4K is only going to climb at a feverish rate, so you might as well get it sooner than later. It's the last SD Rolex made before they added the dreaded cyclop and upsized it. And it's very short run makes it even more desirable.

If you want a Sea Dweller - then sure make the trade— if you prefer the steel look sure make the trade — but I wouldn’t be adding any cash to the deal whatsoever.

There’s nothing special about the SD. I’ve worn both as daily watches.

Just my .02

I'd do it straight up or if they gave you a couple of hundred. I've seen the SD4k at $9.5k and the bluesy well over $10k. HAPPY HUNTING

I’d do it straight up, but not with cash. They are in the same range. That’s a win win, assuming the 116613 is in good shape.

Not sure about the numbers but no doubt the SD4K is a great piece to have

The demand and value drops on two-tone gold watches. That should put your bluesy about in line with the SD. It'll hurt losing the value on your watch in this trade, but you know what? You would have lost it anyways. Face it, TT just isn't where it's at with Rolex and stainless steel is.

It's a good straight-up trade (similar condition and no cash in the deal). I think you'll find the SD more versatile and my guess is you'll wear it a lot more.

This is a hard one really.

Depends on how much cash.
Depends on the margin the seller has.
Depends on how many people are interested in the SD.
Depends on how many people would be interested on the Sub for a quick turnaround for the seller.
Depends on how eager the seller is for the deal, based on the above.
Depends on how eager YOU are for the deal.

I'd push for as close to a straight swop as possible if it were my decision.

actually I didnt notice that the price of a sea dweller 4000 would be same as the bluesy sub. does the price of the sea dweller rise a lot this year?

The SD4k price increase is in line with the SS hype currently going on.
It;s a very nice watch and you should buy it because you like it. After all it was not a popular reference and that's why Rolex discontinued it.
Not a good investment if that's what you are after.

I would not trade, I would simply sell what I was not wearing.

I would do it if the numbers were right and by that I mean straight trade or a little either way. A few hundred. I am not a TT fan and you can easily replace the TT should it not work for you. Go get your SD.

Well, the Sub sits in a safe and it sounds like you want the Sea Dweller due to its perceived rare status. I'm not sure your heart is in it. Don't bother with the 4000.

Maybe just sell the Sub and go on a nice holiday!

Hi all, thank you, as always for the input and feedback. I have read each line and will not be making the deal. It is simply too lopsided and not in my favor. I will however, try and become a first time watch seller and get rid of the two tone blusey! Yikes!

Again, many and sincere thanks
