White gold sub for AP 15400 ?

Thinking about trading my white gold sub "smurf" for AP 15400. Do you think this is a good trade with some cash coming my way ?

I guess that depends on which watch you want more, condition, remaining warranty and how much cash.

Personally I would not do that trade.

PM for SS choice is yours - I think the gold sub is a soft pm model compared to say a DD in the way of value retention - if you don’t mind the weight difference the AP bracelt is very nice and cash always helps.

How much exactly?

For a 15200 or 15300, sure. Personally, I find the proportions a bit off on the 15400.

For a 15202 I would, but then you’d have to pony up

I prefer the blue dial of the 400 to the Smurf and the 202 so I'd go for it, with some money back.

Not a fan really of the 15400. Ultra thin blue dial is nice however. I wouldn't trade a Smurf for either of those even if it was watch plus $10k

I have to agree with others...15400 does not have great proportions. The flared lug to lug dimensions coupled with the thin case is a bit odd to my eyes...especially in comparison to the classic.

I would keep the smurf or trade for something else.

I probably wouldn’t trade a WG watch for steel... however the AP movement is beautiful and much more highly decorated... a true peice of holorolgical effort.

If you can live with the 15400, you should go for it. Just remember that it's a scratch magnet and it looks bad with even minimal abuse. Go to a dealer that sells them preowned and have a look so you know what you're getting into. I wore mine tucked under a sleeve or not at all & couldn't wait to unload it. The topic's been discussed here many times.

Neither is super high on my wrist but I give the edge to AP. Prefer the 15300

I was in a similar situation to you about a month ago.

A full gold YG GMT2 for a SS PP 5711 + cash. It depends how much you like the 15400.

Personally, I’ve been lusting over the 5711 since my early 20s. That is why I did the trade.

It was hard while I was doing the trade. A PM for a SS.

For me it would depend on what else you have and how much cash would be coming your way.

If it's the blue dial 15400 you'd pretty much be at an even trade. I'd probably want ~$5K cash my way for any of the other dial colors.

No, absolutely not. PM for an inflated price SS? Nope.

Not for the 15400. 39mm is the best size for the RO.

There is no way I would ever do that trade. Unless I was sending you my 15400 for your white gold Submariner.

I love my 15400, don't get me wrong. I would rather have a white gold Submariner, though.

Purely financial : not an even trade.

Financially, the right trade would depend on the dial color, condition, etc. In terms of pure watch, the AP RO is on another level. Furthermore, the 15400 is being replaced by a new model number next year. Look at the prices of the 26320 which was replaced by the 26331, gives you a decent idea of what might happen to the 15400. Get one while you still can!

Tough decision for me. I have a RO and love it but also really like the blue sub. Do what makes you happy.
On another note, post this in the AP section and see what answers you get over there.
