Calling London members - polishing question

Dear all, Dear London folk,

Has anyone used this company?
https://www.google.de/maps/place/Tom..._BIwInoECAYQCA

They seem well rated for a little family run shop, the kind that can really offer excellent service and quality. I am minded to have a Rolex polished by them. They say a factory finish is possible and costs £90. They advertise their services on eBay.

Any comments or in fact not-RSC suggestions for a 'factory-polish'.

With thanks in advance,
DrSY

Forgot to add, this company claims to remove the bezel in order to polish, this will mean removing the entire movement and re-sealing. This sounds quite involved!

A watch should always be disassembled prior polishing.
Personally I would go for the more renowned place as there are quite a few in the UK and you can only mess up your watch once.

If you are really in Berlin than go for the full spa and let RSC Koln fix it, outstanding

I have two OQs due for service. One needs movement work so will go to RSC London - I know them there and they do excellent work. My Submariner has been serviced twice in 21 years, always top quality.

The other OQ I have is working fine, it has just been polished by some third party - and needs to be cleaned and put back to factory finish. I am visiting London, my home city, and feel there are more specialists there doing this type of work versus Berlin.

This place looks really good: https://knightsbridgewatches.com/rep...saAtacEALw_wcB and they claim to be accredited Rolex servicing.

Starting at £65 with a two-day turn around - whats not to like. Their online gallery is impressive. Naturally with the OQ the chamfered edges are key. Getting this right is very important for me.

But I'll visit in person and check it all out.

Thanks but I'm looking for a non-RSC option.

Anyone used https://www.russelltalerman.com/services

Calling London members - polishing question

I’d normally suggest staying away and always going back to the manufacturer.

Problem is, Rolex and it’s service centres seem to have woeful QC currently.

Here’s a picture of a brand new Tudor, just weeks old. The case was badly dinged by a colleague of mine who took it to RSC Kings Hill to sort.

They insited on charging him for a service and then it came out with a clasp, which didn’t have anything wrong with it but they gave it a going over anyway, looking like this.

Fortunately, my colleague inspected the watch then and there and was not happy. The service advisor apparently rolled out this act of shock as to how it got there...

Website looks good. I heard good stories about watchworks based in the UK.
You are right, especially the OQ needs a true artisan. Don't focus on price and turn around time imho. Good luck

Indeed, its about the relationship you have with the RSC I feel. My father's Daytona turned out to be a real lemon, its only 7 years old and been back and forth to RSC London a lot - this is how I got the know the technicians there - they'd greet me by name! BUT they did a wonderful job on my Sub.

I'm not in a rush but the watch needs a good going over...and it really dirty.

Relationship you have with the RSC?!?

It’s a service centre, and going by current Rolex advice, servicing should take place between every 5 to 10 years. How could you possibly forge a relationship with some service guys in those sort of intervals? Why would you even want to?

If the service and finish on your watch is based on a relationship between you and your closest RSC, that would be absurd, think about it...

It’s simple. They should do their job, properly.

This is the reason I left London - London folks are so aggressive ... relax mate.

I know a few technicians there who have been advising me via email - hence the relationship.

If you don't have anything productive to say, perhaps stay out of this thread?

On this occasion, ignore what you think is aggression and take the question I’ve posed...

Of the thousands of watches that Rolex service, a minority will get to forge a relationship. My response was aimed at the RSC, not you.

there, no aggression.

i can recommend austinkaye on The Strand (opposite the Savoy hotel) for general watch advise. Have also found them a wealth of information and all about the customer.
Been around for years, always have a good stock of second hand watches and are happy to help with servicing requests.

Sure but re-reading your response - I feel it was not needed. I explained the context.

Anyway, I have found a place and shall be trying it next week. I'll be posted detailed before and after photographs and hope this assists the community that exists on this platform.

A plain and simple fact the only time any Rolex needs any sort of polishing is at normal routine RSC service every 5-10 years depending how used.

I use a place in Hatton garden called WPC for doing anything that isn't a complete overhaul and can't recommend Miguel and his team enough

I really don't get comments like this... it doesn't actually say anything.

Yes I agree, Miguel is a decent chap and we have been in email contact for the past 24 hours. I shall take the watch to him and reserve the job for him only. Photos to follow.

If you could post photos of the work he has done for you, if you feel able to do this, I'd be most grateful.

With thanks,
