Origin of watch - does it matter?
I've put a deposit on a new BLNR from a grey dealer. The original place of sale of the watch is India.
Does this matter in the slightest? Should I have any cause for concern? Also, is there a way to check if the warranty has been activated correctly at time of sale? |

They’re called ‘grey’ for a reason.

You put a deposit down and you’re worried after?
Did you carry out any diligence beforehand? Did you not pose this question to the seller? I’m sure it is absolutely fine. This is, though, a reason as to why people go down the AD route. I’ve seen your posts about not wanting to wait, and I get that, but going grey can cause doubt, just like this. You have to weight it up. |

Origin of watch - does it matter?
As long as you trust the seller the country it was originally sold makes no difference. A authentic Rolex watch is the same regardless of country of sale.

It doesn't matter where in the world the watch was purchased if all was done correctly at AD originally. Not sure what is the best way to check if the card was activated correctly at the time of purchase. But you may try to contact AD which name should be listed on the warranty card.
That being said, I would never buy Rolex watch from GD, only from AD. |

1. Yes 2. Because an RSC might balk on a warranty repair for an owner in Ireland on a watch retailed in India. Be ready for that challenge. 3. Yes, once you own it send it to RSC for warranty work (like an accuracy adjustment). You’ll know the answer to #2 & #3 pronto. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Here in the US, I believe there have been incidents where there were issues with foreign AD origin watches at RSCs, specifically refusal for warranty service. I have no idea how things work in the British Isles. If the watch isn't under warranty then there really is no issue. As far as Rolex quality there is no problem since they all come from the same factory..

Really great insight, appreciate it. The watch is genuine, my only concern is to ensure the warranty will be honoured if ever required. Thanks |

I mean if you purchase it in India and bring it in to the EU without ever paying duty on it.

I have always been under the impression that grey market watches do not come with a factory warranty, only a warranty that might be offered by the dealer. |

I bought a LVc from GD, which had Virgin Islands AD card. Had a service need, so took to RSC Beverly Hills, and they took care of me, no questions asked. I didn’t even show them the warranty card.

If your purchasing from a reputable grey dealer or trusted seller - I’d say you have ZERO worries — guys like Thanh, David SW, Patrick, Tony....otherwise — there can always be concerns -
Always ‘buy’ the seller first... My watches come from my AD - or the guys mentioned above — ZERO worries. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That’s good to hear. Clearly the AD in the VI did the warranty card swipe correctly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Is it a new BLNR (2018) or new to you? What's the worst case scenario, you have to pay the service fee if it in-fact needs service.
