Guy talks a bunch of good sense about watches

Rolex and GS content. Not much to disagree with here, or is there? [I don't think there is.]

LOL !! This guy I think is retired and spends a bunch of time on talk sessions in youtube. He is 100% committed with Grand Seiko and trying hard to debunk Rolex. Definitely has an agenda against Rolex, which by the way is not working as their watches are continuously more and more sought after.

Regarding investing advice, yeah it makes sense. However ask yourself why he argues against an established trend ? does he do that in his investments too ?

He mentions bitcoin as an investment have you though what would have happenned to you if you bought bitcoin at 10,000 or above ?

He doesn't mention bitcoin in that film. There's also no anti-Rolex stuff there either! Did we watch the same film?

Maybe you didn't watch his other videos. I stopped watching after a handful, as I realized he ran out of ideas. I was just talking about him in another thread.

No I haven't seen any other videos of his. I came across this at random this afternoon, and thought it seemed pretty level-headed.

I am a big-time Rolex enthusiast btw (I own five).

I thought the same thing the first couple of times I watched him. In fact, the video you linked to was the first of his I saw, and I thought it made a lot of sense. Then I noticed the anti-Rolex rhetoric increase in subsequent videos. He defends his positions by saying people who disagree with him are either ignorant or in denial. He also accuses people with differing opinions of being trolls, aimed particularly at those who defend Rolex. On top of that, he's essentially a one-trick pony: promote GS while pissing on Rolex. It gets boring. I really was over him when I saw he posted a one-hour-plus livestream where he began by introducing each logged-in viewer as being, "in the house," and repeatedly engaged in a half-assed imitation of Archie Luxury shouting, "Rooolex!!!" I made it through a few minutes of that, but even the compelling power of looking at a train wreck couldn't get me to keep watching longer.

Older guy talking watches and his experience with them. I enjoyed the clip. He does make some valid points regarding service.

I didn’t hear any Rolex bashing, to be honest he seems like a Rolex fan. He clearly owns a day date and it looks like he has a new 114060. So not sure why anyone would think he has an agenda against Rolex.

Also I appreciated his comments about watch ownership and net worth.

Again, watch his other videos. He bashes the six-digit Subs with a fury. I can't imagine he'd own an ND. Although, if he does, then he's really mixed up.

My thoughts exactly.

I really don't care what else he may or may not have said, because this is the only film of his I've seen, and it is therefore the only one I'm commenting on. I think there's a lot of straightforward commonsense in there.

I'm a bigtime Rolex fan, don't own any GS, and couldn't give a monkeys about any sort of "brand loyalty".

Watch the other films they are clearly labeled with the word Rolex or SS. They are shorter and are about a month old.

I’ve seen a couple of his videos

He is set in his ways. Whatever he doesn’t like is considered “ugly” to him. He refuses to see or even acknowledge the other points of view

Also I find it a little bit creepy where the guy is 60(?) and has 20 yo hoola hoop girls on his channel. Creepy!!!

And he thinks whatever he buys is of the highest quality and looks best when clearly you can tell they are totally dated designs as the cut of his jackets and suits look like a huge blanket.

I’m not a fan :(

But that’s just me.

He’s entitled to his opinion

I thought the same thing, as well, and that was before I read the news article quoted by utc66. Now I don't just find it a little bit creepy. My favorite quote from the article:

"Shipp has also posted video clips of local girls riding his Segway at [website redacted]. Catoctin Principal Jack Newkirk said he previously was forced to have Shipp removed from a sporting event. Shipp was disrupting the game with his Segway and was combative when asked to stop, Newkirk said. 'It became necessary for him to leave,' he said."

I stand corrected. There is nothing creepy about this guy's videos. (Screen caps uncropped.)

Opinions will vary, and he makes a compelling case for not over servicing from a purely economic point of view. But he doesn't necessarily cover all real world scenarios which one may or may not encounter in life.

lf I could offer this one thing that stands out to me as being a bit hypocritical.
He goes on about how great a Titanium watch is to own and talks about how ridiculous it is to not have anything else.
And yet, for some reason he's still hanging on to a solid gold Rolex with its wiggely and finnickey(not solid) crown

He compares her to material objects. I happened to have purchased my Grand Seikos from the same Jewelry store. I strongly disagree with his views on servicing. I know for a fact seals alone will wear out over time.

Really creepy about the pictures....

I've watched his servicing video and I tend to agree with his points on that topic.

I've seen a number of his other videos. He has adopted his own standards, which are chosen in such a way that only Grand Seiko can meet them. That's his opinion and he's entitled to it.

The part that I don't approve of is he often uses Rolex in the titles (to capture viewers) but rarely talks about Rolex or when he does, it's largely to mention how inferior it is to his two Grand Seiko watches.

I'm surprised how no one else mentioned it, but he rips Tudor like no other. Basically telling people to sell them ASAP, at a loss, etc. I've never owned a Tudor watch, but I'm fairly certain they are MUCH better watches than he gives them credit for.

I read the article about the cheerleader photos and was saddened.

Here is that video I was referring to:

https://youtu.be/fii-t942VuE

Putting into context with the cheerleader information it does make it even more creepy.

Kinda reminds me of the Army...about 30 seconds of real information "packed" into a 24 minute video.

I'm sorry, but as a fellow 60 year old, I feel compelled to say...

watched for a while -- but i don't get it why it has to be one or the other .. GS or Rolex .. seems artificial ..

my rolex sub is superior to PAM1523 , keeps better time, better build .. but i have both in my collection, because they speak to different parts of my soul.

and i dont compare them in the morning, i just put on the one that feels right that day.
