Talk some sense into me, about to over pay for a stainless skydweller!

Since we’re all here we know the brand and I’m sure most if not all know finding a stainless skydweller at an AD is more than a tough task. I’ve tracked down a few but the best price so far is $16k, and the really sucky part is they’re all “pre owned”, which isn’t a huge deal because it’s mostly resellers that grabbed one and are looking to make a premium. Has anyone had any luck finding them at an ad recently? The ad I’ve purchased my last 2 Rolex’s from has said 8-12 months, patience isn’t my specialty.

8-12 months is not bad in the grand scheme of things. I'd wait it out unless I was flush with cash. Would give you something to look forward to.

8-12 months is a hideous amount of time. You can have a child in that time. Pay over the odds and get it now

It's only a watch, I don't see any urgency to buying any watch, ever. And especially not at an inflated price! Wait, and they will come down, or buy new from an AD.

I’d buy now. Nobody knows how the inventory will be and there could always be a price increase. You won’t regret paying a little over list for the watch.

I just paid grey market prices for mine. I spoke to 2 ADs. I have done enough business with one where where they offered me an Aquanaut on bracelet in July, so I figure I’m not just a random inquiring about it. She said they aren’t even taking names for the blue one anymore. The other AD told me that he’s never even seen a blue sky dweller pass through his shop. Both of these ADs are huge.

So the issue is whether a particular AD will ever even get one, from what I hear.

Hopefully you’ll have better luck with a smaller AD who happens to get one, but I figured that’s about as likely as landing a rent controlled apartment in NYC. Can it happen? Sure. But sometimes the odds dictate that it’s time to move on.

Now if you want a black, white, or 2 tone, I hear those could be had relatively easily. I would be patient if you’re in the market in one of those. Sometimes they come in faster than they tell you too. That aforementioned Aquanaut came in in 6 months, where I was told 2 years...

That’s what I’ve been told as well, I’m in CT and there’s no shortage of AD’s and almost told me exactly that, they haven’t seen one all year and never the blue dial. I’m after black which seems to available in grey market as you said but pumped up prices. What did you pay if you don’t mind me asking?

It was a trade-in, but essentially $23k BNIB. DavidSW had one for $21k, lightly used, some protective plastics in place. But I decided to shop locally, and $2k didn’t seem totally outrageous for BNIB vs. lightly used.

$16k for black is a relative bargain, and it’s amazing how much of a discount they’re getting under the blue. I would expect that spread to close soon, though, as they seem to be getting rarer than I thought.

Relatively easy to get a black dial? Not sure about that.

My apologies...I think my previous impressions were mistaken. Seems almost as hard these days to get the black or white dials.

I've never seen one. Ever.

I don't see the problem paying a premium with the rate they're coming in.

i have been to 4 ADs on a regular basis, and according to the sales people, they have not seen/received a Steel SkyDweller in months. Perhaps the owners of the ADs are not even letting their sales staff even see them and back door them right away.

As for the blue dial one forget it.

Just do it. I would say if you really want a watch and can afford to buy it and have to pay over a little it’s all good. Maybe even buy from someone out of state from you to save the sales tax that is a big savings or if you travel buy and ship back home. The sales tax savings could justify having to pay a little over retail. I have the 2 tone black face. It is such a great watch. It has an amazing wrist presence also. I personally feel like it just is so different than any other Rolex. Man talking about it so much I’m going to wear mine tomorrow

At 16k I say do it. (If that’s what you want) my AD has had maybe 2 stainless SkyDwellers - they are more rare than Daytona’s...interestingly enough.

Which color are you most interested in? If it's white or black, then I'd just wait for one to come in.If you really want the blue, it's impossible to get and overpaying is the only way to get it.

I want black, which seems available on grey market but barley. I’ve found 3 total and one guy wanted almost 20k, one at 17,500 and the front runner that I’m going to see Monday is 16k which given I’m sure no one is giving discounts isn’t terrible.

At $16k its not that bad.

If your paying upwards of $20k then that is just stupid. Just get a precious metal piece.

Agreed however, the only other one close in price I found in Nashville, he actually has it posted here for 16,500 I believe. Everything else in tri-state area is 17,500 and north.

Yeah, again, there has to be a limit. I see no issue paying $16k for a black face that you might save $1k after sales tax if you get on a list and pay MSRP.

However, I could not pay $20k for a blue face that is $4k over MSRP.

I have no issue paying $2k over MSRP for a Root Beer but would never pay $7k over MSRP for a SS Daytona....even if the premium put it at a lesser price than a Root Beer (I know that is not reality....but just saying).
