One watch collection Sub v. AP ROO ?
I know the forum is obviously biased but I am trying to decide between the following:
1. New Black Date Sub. 2. New Hulk 3. Used AP Royal Oak Offshore diver with black rubber strap and black face. I know these watches aren't really comparable but I'm a one watch kind of person and need this to be my daily. What are your thoughts? |

The answer would depend largely on availability and wait times for each reference. As well as price, will you be going AD or grey route? What are you prepared to pay for each of your choices?

Out of your choices...I’d go with a Submariner (either one is a great daily)

As for the Sub I won't go grey market. I'll put my name down at every AD possible and wait for a call. |

I have pretty much been a one-watch guy for 33 years. IMO, even though I've never owned any of your options, the AP would be out because they seem to be much less robust than Rolex and don't really make for good daily's.
The green Sub would be out for me because it's so bold and therefor isn't really right in some situations (green Sub lovers will disagree). The black Sub date is the most flexible of the three and is much more suitable to withstand the rigors of daily life than the AP, so that would be my choice. Plus, of course, it's a nice, iconic watch.

I'll stick to Rolex for an all rounder. IMO it the diver wouldn't look neat on a suit. however I do wear my Rolex from work to the beach and then back out to a night out ..

I'd go with the black sub date. The hulk is a beauty, no doubt, but I feel it's a little more of a novelty, which may wane over time. A black sub is a black sub....

What material is the watch and bezel on the AP? If it’s stainless you need to consider that it’s not babied it will look like hell in a shirt period of time. If the bezel is rubber it will need to be changed at service and AP service ain’t cheap. Your cost of ownership between Rolex and AP is VERY different.

Would be between the Submariner LN or the AP ROO Diver.

AP Diver.
Owned multiple divers and subs. Still have both in my collection but if someone put a gun to my head and make me chose I would keep a diver.

Id do black sub over the ROO if you only have one watch. Mainly because the ROO is used and unless it just came from AP factory service your in for a hefty and long service in your near future.

I vote for the black Sub date. Most versatile of the three.
I have grown to love the Hulk, but the timelessness of the black Sub wins out for me. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk |

If it were me, I'd go one of the Subs. I've had a date (black) and no date Sub. Both are long gone and I now have the LVc, but I also have a BLNR so the black dial scratches that itch. Just depends on your personality and which one sings to you. My history is such that every watch I wasn't 100% onboard with prior to owning has ended up getting sold sooner than later.

SubC Date no doubt. It's the most versatile of the three. I don't think a ROO on rubber can be a daily wear with anything type of watch (specifically business casual/professional).
SubC - the classic.

One watch is not a collection, its A watch.
Given your choices the Sub Date is the most all round useful, to me. E- |

New Hulk.
Any black Sub that is not a 5 digit--a commodity. AP ROO--a grotesque misinterpretation of the original. My opinions, of course ;-)

having had all these pieces..AP Diver is not a great daily..and its got too much drama associated with service times and cost..
robust, easy and accurate..rolex would be my daily
