Did the gmt from Antique Roadshow ever get auctioned?
Love these kinds of stories and his reaction is so genuine and humble.

I’ve watched it so many times! I love it. I hope he didn’t sell.

Almost as good is the recent Hodinkee Talking Watches with the Tudor vintage watches.

The Tiffany GMT roadshow video that comes after it is also a great watch.

The 1960 rolex has a plastic crystal, right? So a bit of polywatch ought to clear it up and at least make it legible, right? I've no idea how that guy uses that watch every day.
I got my grandfathers watch (also worn by my father) and the plastic crystal was in a similar condition. Maybe years of sapphire crystals have spoiled us and it was just more common to have a scratched crystal "in the old days"? |

While we're on the subject, check out this video of a terrific example of the Bakelite GMT 6542. |

He will never sell it. Hopefully a grandson will pass it down as well.
I was on the beach in Sanibel FL last October when a fellow fisherman walked by we started to talk about the day when I noticed a beat up watch on his wrist. At a glance could barely tell what it was. Then I saw a faded 2 tone bezel. It was a 1969 GMT purchased in a PX in Vietnam. He has worn the watch every day. Replaced the bracelet twice had the watch serviced but never refinished. Said he paid 250 for it of course has been offered 30k. He handed it to me so I got to hold it next to my 116710.. very cool... then told me he would never sell it...he said "Its my watch and always will be" yes you are right I should have grabbed my phone and taken a pic!!! |
