RSC Service, NYC

If I buy a watch that needs to be serviced at the NYC RSC, I read somewhere that if I am not the original owner and therefore not the name on the warranty card, I would need a Bill of Sale from the original owner to claim repairs under warranty.
Can anyone shed some light on this? thank you.

Send it to the Dallas RSC, they do great work and are less fussy! Many TRF members will agree.

How old is the watch? I think that’s fake news. I brought a watch I bought in the diamond district to them and they didn’t care. They’ll still happily take your money for a service

1WatchDawg--- I live in the NY area and in NYC a few times per month, so NYC would be advantageous and I have had them do work before and happy with outcome.

Jg422---the watch I am contemplating buying was purchased by the original owner this year (2018), so plenty of warranty left. Doubtful it would need any repairs, but I was just inquiring about the NYC RSC rules. I hear they are fussy.

I don’t think you’ll have any issue.

If Rolex deems the watch to be a Grey Market import, they do not have a valid warranty.

If they ask for a receipt, they are simply assuring that the watch was purchased from an AD by the retail consumer, which is a requirement of the warranty.

The name doesn't matter, the origin of the watch matters.

Are you saying then to get the original bill of sale/receipt from owner or is a Bill of Sale from owner to me OK?

There was no such requirement at RSC Beverly Hills. I took a Sub LVc there for service under warranty and didn't even have the warranty card and they took care of it without any issue. I did have the warranty card, but it was at home. I happened to be up there and noticed fuzz under the crystal sitting on my dial, so asked them to clean it out. They did that and recertified the water resistance to depth rating plus 25% before returning the watch to me (same day). I got a $0 receipt in the mail weeks later for the service with the model, serial number and my name and address.

If the watch was original purchased from an AD and the warranty was properly registered with Rolex at time of purchase you won't have a problem. If it wasn't then you would be on the hook for the service fee. If the watch is fine I and you are getting it at a good price I wouldn't worry. The bill of sale won't matter, the AD registering it would. You can always call the AD listed on the card to see if they registered it.

Has this happened to you or someone you know? I don’t think Rolex NYC is that picky about it. Maybe I’m wrong
