AD Called and Offered...
... and I passed.
Got a call from my rep I work with all the time at my AD offering me a 116610LN. Knowing I was on the list for a 116610LV I couldn’t purchase basically the same watch minus a color change. Passed on it hoping someone’s Christmas will be made getting a piece they’ve been after. It got me thinking, I wonder how many times a piece is sold and flipped (even when the initial purchase was made with no intentions of flipping)? I know many feel the “shortage” is due to people buying up whatever they can, even if they don’t truly want it. To me, that seems a bit silly, but I’m sure it does happen. But it also made me wonder whether or not turning away an offering hurts your chances of obtaining future pieces. Then again, I’m sure this varies from AD to AD. But, I’m rambling, just a few quick thoughts that are rolling around in my head after the call. I’ve seen a lot of incomings lately. So it seems like a fair amount of people got their Christmas wish! Sadly, no green for me to wear for this holiday. There’s always next shipment... Right? |

I turned down 3 from an AD that I bought my polar expII from back in March. Twice for a no date sub and a gmt chnr. The. He called me for a 4th time on a GMT LN, which I bought. I passed on the first 3 because I like them but didn’t love them. So as you said depends on the AD. He also just texted me 2days ago for a BLNR. Which I passed on due to timing and since it’s basically the same as the one I bought aside of half a bezel. So if they know you are serious and turn down pieces you don’t Love I think they feel more comfortable in knowing you won’t flip right away. My guy will continue to call me knowing when it’s something I really want I’ll buy it.

My rep at the AD and AD owners know I don’t flip thankfully. It astonishes me how many people will buy just to flip though, ruins the hobby for me if I were to do that I feel. |

The good thing about solid secondary market is that if you get a couple of months in and start to realise that the watch isn’t for you, you do have an option to ‘get out of it’. Gives a bit more peace of mind when making the purchase, as in the past this would be a very expensive mistake.
