Remove green hologram sticker on caseback?

In removing all the clear plastic stickers from my new Datejust (purchased yesterday), I got to the green plastic sticker on the caseback with the word "ROLEX" over and over again in sort of a hologram with a number in large black digits written across it. I assumed this was also to be removed as I did with my Deep Sea. But, when I went to peel it off, I realized it was affixed directly to the SS with extremely sticky glue. I don't want to look at an ugly cheap green plastic hologram sticker on my caseback so I started picking away to remove it. After removing the sticker, the caseback was covered with sticky remnants of the glue! I was able to clean and remove all the glue remnants without scratching the caseback. But does Rolex really want this sticker permanently affixed to the caseback? It's fugly! If not, then why wouldn't they affix it without glue?

Nope, it's not supposed to be permanent. Maybe they don't want customers pulling it off while it's being looked at, etc...

I could be wrong, but I think they started putting the hologram stickers on back in the day before the counterfiters could duplicate them. I don't think the current models have those stickers on. An any rate, a Q-tip and a little solvent will take off the glue after the sticker is removed. And it should be removed. Leaving it on looks like a left-on price tag on a hat.

It is supposed to be removed right after purchase and it can actually cause pitting of the steal from moisture being trapped under it. I have used nail polish remover on the glue in the past, I just stay away from the edges of the case back to try to avoid any chemicals on the seals.

Good point Trevor. Avoid any kind of solvent near the seal as it will penetrate and cause premature deterioration of the seal.
I use my thumb to rub it off. It will eventually get scratched by the bracelet and can be polished off easily

I haven't seen one of those green stickers on new stock for years. What model is it and what series?

Funny, maybe if Omega's had a hologram it would explain the drastic drop in resale value.

i hate the green stickers and the nut jobs that demand they stay on... glad they went away with them..

remove it, use some solvent on a q tip to get rid of excess.. i found if you use a razor to take it off.. just press flat and drag across it gets almost all the sticky off.

That is just plain silly and wrong. Take the hologram sticker off and save it with all your other paperwork if you're worried about resale. Dirt, moisture, all kinds of things that are bad for your watch end up underneath the hologram if you don't remove it. You'll even find that the RSC will remove the sticker if its still on the watch when you take it in for service.

Left mine on my TT DJ for 8 months, it just came off on its own, didn't do any harm.

Guys, I am pretty sure he is just joking. Nobody would actually think that a sticker will increase value, at least I hope not.

I'm in the printing business and I print Holographic pieces. The stickers Rolex use to put on the watches is intended to be removed. If it had permanent adhesive on it you would get the stcker off in pieces not whole.

I just bought a GMT IIc 2 weeks ago and it didn't have the sticker on it. My AD even commented that he was glad they stopped putting that sticker on because it was hard to remove.

This will do the trick! Good stuff!

The best thing to remove sticky film from almost everything is WD-40 spray lubricant. It does not hurt the finish of metal, plastic or wood. Give that a try!

Exactly. I guess sarcasm should be represented by a special font color (brown comes to mind) so as to avoid serious responses to it.

Wow, been awhile since we had a thread on the green hologram. Must be VERRRYYYY old stock.

How old is old? When did Rolex stop using the hologram sticker and was it the same for all models? The new DJ I bought from an AD last weekend has the sticker. I love the watch and got a great so should this bother me?

Watches that were made in 2006 still had the sticker. 2007 forward did not. It is nothing to worry about, the AD just had that watch in his stock for a couple of years. I just bought a DJ for my wife in December that still had the sticker.
