What would you do - advice / thoughts needed
Hi all,
As above - I wanted to get your thoughts on something. I am sure this is just a Monday morning phase that I am going through but would appreciate some input: I have owned my SS Sub date ceramic for a few years now and more recently I was in a very fortunate position to purchase a SS Daytona ceramic which was my ultimate time piece...so I did. It has always been my end goal to have a Sub for mainly daily wear and a Daytona for more 'dressy' occasions abd i do love both pieces. However now that I have both, I am going through a "Do I really need both" thought process. Not really sure why..... I appreciate that I am very very fortunate to be able to own two beautiful time pieces, but what would you do...? I don't need to get rid of any of them, i.e. I'm not under any financial pressures that I have to sell one. Is this just a phase I am going through? Have you found yourselves in similar situations? If so...What did you end up doing? Regards, Jon |

Would keep both if there is no major reason to sell.
Sub for work Daytona for play

I have the same thoughts and issues sometimes and now I have Daytona, Sub C and new Pepsi...do I need them NO, are they cool to have and a solid place to park cash, pretty much yes.
With that said, I may actually move the Pepsi because I just haven't worn it, when that happens, I don't think there's a reason to keep but if you wear both, keep them both, you will regret it if you sell one. |

Put one in the safe for 6 months and see how you feel. If you miss it, there is your answer. If not then debate whether selling now or in 10 years is a smarter financial choice.

I believe that two is one and one is none. I owned a SS Submariner years ago that needed a service and when it went away I went back to wearing a plastic sport watch. No issues with it but I had grown accustomed to my Rolex most of the time. It was a long 6 weeks and when it came back a began a journey to own two. I would keep both and rotate between them. I have found that the watch I wear for an extended period of time become my go to. Just change up when you feel it.

Been on the other side of this and regret selling my BLNR. If you don’t need to sell it put it away for a few months and just wear one. I promise you that you will miss the other and it will be like getting a new watch all over again.

Well the question "Do I really need both" is just the rational part of your brain exercising its assigned duty. Of course you don't need both. But, be careful pursuing this line of thought...you don't need a multi-thousand dollar watch to tell the time, either.
What would I do? Take the rational thought out of it, naturally. Acknowledge that you don't need it, but you do want it. Once you're honest with yourself, you'll find it's easier to come to terms with your irrationalities. |

If you’re under no pressure to sell (financial or otherwise), I’d recommend keeping both at least for 6 months or so to see how you’re wearing them both. If it turns out you never wear the sub, of course sell it.
A sub and a Daytona are great pieces to rotate between

Yes, you need both.
They complement themselves nicely.

I've gone through this before. I pretty much only wore my 16610 sub and the others would just sit in a box.
Rolex wise, I've wittled it down to the sub and a DJ41, and the 41 doesn't get all that much wear, but it's nice to have for the occasions I want to switch it up. My guess is you'll do something along the same lines and be able to justify it.

Is there anything you'd like to have more than your Sub? If so replace it. If not keep it. The reason I asked is if you sell it your going to want something else anyway. Gmtll ?

Thank you for all of your responses. It has been helpful to get other enthusiasts experience and input....
I was never planning on rushing the decision so will do as planned and as others have said - give it a few months and see how i feel. More than likely I will end up keeping both...just puzzled me as to why I started doubting having multiple pieces when that, for a few years, has always been my dream/goal. Will keep you posted in case of any updates/change of heart! |
