SKX009 New Owner Advice

Guys, looking at getting the SKX009 for weekend working

I’m seeing there are various suffix codes to these; J, K etc.

Is this something I need to be looking out for? Any known reoccurring issues or gripes?

Really just hoping for some clarity/advice what these mean and what, if anything, I should be looking for

SKX009K is made outside of Japan

SKX009J is made in Japan.

There is a quest to find out the true meaning of seiko’s j and k markings....
Lots of conjecture that can’t quite be backed up by a solid Seiko source.

I’ve also read that J- means destined for Japanese market, and K- for international markets .

No difference between J and K. And whoever thinks so needs to get his eyes checked.

Just get one, is all I can say. I ditched the plasticky "rubber" strap, and wear it on either leather or the excellent z199 from Uncle Seiko. Mine keeps great time for such an inexpensive watch.

I bought one today

It’s a SKX009, J suffice. Says 21 Jewels Made in Japan (whatever difference that makes)

And it is GLORIOUS

I found this on another forum, I do not know how accurate it is, I do remember once reading about the bracelet sizes somewhere but cant remember where.

I did some research on this several years ago, as there were urban rumours that the J stood for 'Made in Japan' and the K for 'Made in Korea'.... or J meant the watch came with a bracelet and K meant a strap....and this is what I eventually found...

Seiko J1 and K1 models

FAQ: What's the difference between Seiko J1 models and the K1 models.

The J1 models are for the Far and Middle East markets. They have the days in English and Arabic. They have to say ‘Made in Japan’ on the face. Some have a rubber strap, others have a bracelet. The J1 models often have a shorter bracelet to suit the smaller wrist of that market place.

The K1 models are for the European market and they have the days in English and French/Spanish. Again, they can come with a rubber strap, or a bracelet, but for the European market, they have the full size bracelet.

There is absolutely no difference in build quality.

Here is the skinny. No one knows for sure. Until Seiko says the J and K means something it all guesses.

When you go to buy a SKX make sure you buy it from a company that accepts returns in case the watch has the dreaded chapter ring misalignement. Or buy one from a reseller.

I asked a Seiko AD in Japan, and even he wasn't sure. Together we compared English catalogs to Japanese ones, and found the suffixes to be different on seemingly identical watches on corresponding pages.

There is no physical difference between J and K models. As others have stated here before, they are just markings showing the intended market destination. IMO.

If you get it, look at bracelets and straps by Uncle Seiko and Strapcode. I have Uncle Seiko’s Z199 bracelet.

I bought mine with the original Seiko oyster. Mine is the K version, but it doesn’t make any difference.

When I bought it, the sales people couldn’t have been nicer. A great experience.

Put it on for first time last night and it is cracking. From a few hrs wear it lasted about a further 9 hrs until it stopped

Sorry, by cracking I mean ‘excellent’ - meaning likely doesn’t translate well

Only had it on a few hours but that gave it enough power to run a further 9 hours after taking it off
