Need box info

I have an F-series Daytona 116520 with a wave box but no outer box. I know the wave boxes come in different sizes, so I need some guidance on what to look for. My wave box (#31.00.64) is 7" x 5" x 3". I passed on an outer box on Ebay recently with dimensions of 7¼" x 5¼" x 3" because although very close the gap between the boxes seemed too great (¼" on width and depth, flush on height). Another auction is active now and that box is described as 7¼" x 5¼" x 3¼", which is the same except the height. I obviously don't want to buy the wrong box. Could someone with a matching box set report back with the proper gap? Any help would be appreciated.

I think that you are putting too much faith in what somebody measures and with what they took that measurement.

What would you need the outer box for? The wave box should be fine. Actually you dont even need the wave box to enjoy that timepiece.

I went through this exercise once and realized it is somewhat pointless. As long as you have a period correct box you are fine. ADs often just grab one from the back which may or may not have been its original box. Also, I think the numbers vary based on location of manufacture.

You raise a valid point but my thrust was to get a complete set. An outer box isn't an expensive item, so why not?

Hey bud, the listed outer is good.
Second post was good too!
Wave boxes come in small, medium and large.
Small are usually given with SS sports. I say usually because an AD can give you what they want.
Regards

I actually learned this on my last purchase. There are three sizes. The watches don’t even come in the boxes. They come in a coffin and the boxes are shipped separately. There is a size code on the white hang tag (S,M,L). So in reality there is no way of judging whether the box is original to the watch as long as its period correct. I was given a large box with my JC DSSD which I think is wrong. I prefer the small boxes because they take up less room in my safe.

having a complete set adds to the collect-ability. people that say a full set or papers dont matter, have no idea what they are talking about.

the outer boxes you mentioned in both cases are correct. perhaps the seller was slightly off in his measurement or the outer boxes when cut arent that precise.

outer box is a little larger than your inner box so the 1/4 inch measurement is just fine. The next size up is significantly larger so those measurements you mentioned were just fine
