We are one recession away from a big clearance sale. Between the US government shutdown, trade wars, slowdown in China, Brexit, etc., there is a lot of tinder for it.

No argument from me. What are you doing to prepare for it? (Maybe a separate thread is in order)

When I bought my house we took our down payment in cash and they only wanted a bank wire. I said we closed our other accounts (we moved out of state) and don’t have accounts yet. All of our other bills are set up to auto bill to a CC. We kept large amounts of cash in the safe at the time anyhow so it wasn’t odd for us to have it on hand.

We knew what bank we were going to use (local small bank we were referred to) but walking into a bank with a large sum of cash to open an account to immediately wire a large amount of money to a title company was a fun experience as well.

Amazing to hear physical cash is “no good here” so many places.

What I moreover meant was that in volatile markets like we have now having cash to buy when the timing is right is how long term money is made.

To me, peoples demand for material things to the extent that they're willing to pay close to a 100% premium (New Pepsi) is incomprehensible.

It’s an interesting article and they seem qualified to comment.

What got me is the size of some of these resellers: 160 people, opening a service center in Toronto, etc etc.

When physical cash is eliminated, their control will be complete.
