116610LN vs 116710BLNR - HELP

Hi everyone.

I'm having a dilemma between these two watches that I'm about to buy. See, I'm buying this watch as my 25th Birthday present to myself and the fact that I graduated my Masters this year.

I am torn between these two Rolexes which are :
The Submariner 116610LN vs GMT Master-II 116710BLNR

The prices of these two watches are
Submariner $10.570
GMT $12.785

Any suggestions ? This will be my first Rolex.

Congratulations on your achievement!

Such a personal decision. Easy for me - I travel all the time. I don’t dive. I love blue. My sartorial tastes run a bit flashy. Slam dunk BLNR. :)

Gotta figure out how you plan on wearing it one make a choice on your own. Can’t lose either way.

It comes down to personal preference ... I prefer the diver in this case

Thanks for the fast reply from both of you.

I failed to mention that I am speaking in public a lot. And I do travel a lot for family vacations.

I am going to use this for everyday use because I have a ROO Black Theme for more fancy events.

BLNR if you travel much ... You still have 100 meters water depth
But the Sub is just classic and iconic... Tough choice!

I’d say Sub as only Rolex ... Eventually you’ll get a GMT as well
hanging around here ...

Oh and uh , Congrats on your accomplishment ...

Congrats on your Masters! Great present to commemorate. If you fly a lot, I would get the GMT BLNR. But I am a GMT fan. Get what you like!

Sub is classic. GMT complication is handy. I have both of these references. It’s tough to choose between them. There is no wrong choice when you buy a Rolex!

I had the same choice to make. BLNR was my first. Can't go wrong either way.

I struggled with the same choice. For me, both were beautiful and the BLNR was more practical, but the Sub is an icon. I went with the BLNR first and then the LN. The didn't have the LN terribly long as it resembled my BLNR so much, but I loved the Sub so I went with the LVc. Get whichever one sings to you. Don't worry about what others say. That's my advice.

I’m personally a big fan of the Sub - it’s the classic model for me. I also wouldn’t pay that much over retail for a splash of blue on the bezel.

I wouldn’t really put too much emphasis on the travel thing. It’s not difficult to add or subtract a few hrs when you’re travelling. I get the appeal in the US where they have multiple time zones to contend with for business but when you travel just set your local time and that’s it. The best feature of the GMT for me would be the jumping hour hand - but my omega does that anyways.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

I am going with the BLNR. It just looks more fashionable in a sense and the GMT thing that you guys mentioned will be a useful tool for me for all the travels that I am doing.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Will probably buy a Sub in the near future too, so the BLNR will be the first of many ! Thanks a lot guys.

Oh. Sorry to mention, the BLNR price is a used 2016 one. Is that okay to buy a used BLNR?

116610LN vs 116710BLNR - HELP

GMT is more suitable to my lifestyle than the Sub. I use the time zone function pretty often given extensive travel for work and even when at home (move the bezel; work with a lot of people overseas in Europe).

Once I got my BLNR my Sub barely got any wrist time. I personally just think the watch has a bit more character to it (total preference). They are both excellent choices and it really just comes down to preference between the two.

I ended up parting ways with the Sub and gave it to my brother as his first nice watch. It’s funny you mention getting your masters (congrats!). I gave my younger brother my Sub last year as a gift when he graduated from his masters in architecture.

Out of those two, BLNR. GMT is such a useful complication. More so than diver bezel, IMO. But if I am being honest, BLRO wore off for me, back when I got my GMT it was between TT and BLNR, I ultimately chose TT. Now I don't really like the look of it already, I'd rather go for LN than BLNR. Pepsi though is the best looking SS GMT IMO.

I believe there are only 3 answers in this instance:
- both now
- BLNR now, Submariner later
- Submariner now, BLNR later
Congratulations on your Masters.

Congratulations and this is one of life's very nice problems!

Like many on this forum, I have both of those pieces. I acquired the Sub way before the BLNR ; for me that particular Sub is the iconic Rolex (in the current range) and it was the first modern professional Rolex I wanted. Once I had that, then the doors open to everything else....

I would get the sub anyday, even when travelling you know the time difference to your home country so can work it out or use the bezel of the sub. Plus the PCL on the gmt makes it look too flashy/tacky.

Both are great, but Rolex have a heritage in OCEAN world like no other brand, go for the SUB.

As others have said, they are both great. I had them for a while and wore each on the wrist for a few weeks before making my decision. Ultimately, I thought they were very similar, but the BLNR with the little pop of color and just a touch more flash won it out for me in the end.

sounds like you've already made up your mind but I'll throw my $.02 in anyway. My brother and I both recently decided to get new watches to commemorate a business milestone... he's always wanted a Sub date and I've always been partial to the GMT's, so we got both. I just picked up my BLNR on Monday and am absolutely in love with it. I was a little torn as to which GMT to get but I couldn't be happier with my decision.

Congrats. Nothing wrong with buying a used watch (it's typically the smarter move, financially) but make sure that the seller is reputable and don't be embarrassed to require that the watch be certified as authentic before buying.
