Fine Pens

As if you didn't have enough expensive hobbies, I believe some of you are also collectors of fine writing instruments. This is a subject I have a small interest in. I would like to educate myself on these somewhat practical collectables. Could someone point me in the right direction? Is there a TRF for pen collectors? Can they be purchased safely on the open gray market?

Any help and direction my forum friends can provide will be most appreciated.

Thanks guys!

You might want to PM Mort, Richard. Mort is a pen dealer and collector. He should be able to give you lots of information.

Yup,
Some of us are, my favorite pens are Pelikan.
German fountain pens, that is what I carry and use daily.
Get a nice Pelikan 6oo or 800 fountain to start, reliable aesthetically correct and functional.
Just like a Rolex.

Apart from Mort, Suhail (SSB) ought to be able to point you in the right direction too.

If you wrote checks, John, they wouldn't bounce and you wouldn't have to carry so much cash.

Here we go with the 'lawyer speak' again.

Ed, if you wrote checks in Canada, yes they'd bounce. However, as we speak the Queen's English here in the Great White North, if you wrote a cheque, as I do, there wouldn't be a problem.

BTW, the word cheque is a derivative of the word exchequer, which is where finances in the English speaking world were born.

The problem with the Queen's English is that it uses unncessary letters in words. E.g., "cheque" requires 6 letters; "check" only needs 5. "Queue" calls for 5 letters; "que" uses a measly 3. Look at how much storage space you save using the more modern and efficient American spellings.

John,
When you write those cheques, what colour ink do you use?
Do you write cheques to buy doughnuts also??
If you try writing cheques at Tim Hortons, to buy a coloured doughnut, the queue behind you will get too long. I bet that line would be about out the door.

ps, Don't you have a "soccer" game to watch
I heard they expect over 30 BILLION viewers to see the games. Over 1 BILLION for the final.
for our NZ friend, that is 30,000,000,000 and 1,000,000,000

It hasn’t started yet. I’ll take some pictures tomorrow and post ‘em. Everything is orange here, the whole town is going crazy. The anticipation this time is incredible. But truth to be told, I don’t expect the Dutch side to last beyond the quarter finals. Our football is like your hockey, some guys are multi millionaires at 20 years old! And they can’t handle it. But some of them are really nice guys. Arsenal striker Robin van Persie and his wife visit Anne’s niece quite often, because they went to school together. He was brought up in Crooswijk, a very common Rotterdam neighborhood close to our place. Not all of these guys have turned into ar**holes, although he was in the tabloids not long ago (girlie affair but not true).

Somehow I doubt the Queen has ever written a cheque or a check.
